The Village East Playground at Whiteman Park is a bright, modern play space where toddlers can confidently explore while older children still find plenty of challenges. Shade sails cover much of the main structure, making it a comfortable spot to play even on sunny days.

Youโll find the Playground in The Village at Whiteman Park, right across from the Village Cafe and immediately beside the Mini Water Playground, which operates during the warmer months (generally 10amโ5pm โ always check the Whiteman Park website for current seasonal dates and conditions). With toilets, BBQs and plenty of seating close by, itโs easy to settle in for the morning or make a full day of it. The surrounding lawns make it a popular area for kidsโ summer birthday parties, especially with the wading pool and Playground side by side. Itโs also a great vantage point for tram spotting, and youโre only a short stroll from the Motor Museum, Childrenโs Forest and Revolutions Transport Museum, so thereโs lots to add on before or after a play.

The main play structure is absolutely packed with different elements. Little ones can enjoy a sand table, shopfront and music play for imaginative games, while more adventurous kids tackle the climbing nets, balancing challenges, tunnels and bridges. There are five slides in total, all different shapes and sizes, so children can work their way up from smaller, gentler slides to the bigger, more thrilling ones.

The sand play is a real highlight for younger children โ the wet sand stencils in particular are a big hit and a lovely way to encourage persistence and creativity as they work to reveal the shapes.

Around the main tower there are extra play panels and features that help keep kids engaged. Speaking tubes invite children to communicate across the Playground, a kaleidoscope window offers a fun sensory moment, and more sand play sits at ground level for those who prefer to potter rather than climb. Thereโs also a steering wheel and gears panel, plus a finger maze that offers a quiet but satisfying little challenge for older kids. The combination of imaginative, sensory and physical play makes it easy for siblings of different ages to play alongside each other without anyone getting bored too quickly.

With its central Village location, access to food and coffee at the Village Cafe, nearby museums and attractions, and the seasonal Mini Water Playground next door, Village East Playground is an excellent base for a family day out. Do note that smoking is prohibited within 10 metres of all Playgrounds in Whiteman Park, in line with state legislation, which helps keep the space family-friendly.
