Take a drive south of Mandurah and discover the Thorny Devil Brewery. It’s a rustic spot where brews, barbecue, and family fun come together.

If you find yourself near Lake Clifton – perhaps you’re taking a road trip south, checking out the famous Mandurah thrombolite reef (about a 250m walk from the brewery), or searching for Thomas Dambo’s Giants, you’re in for a treat – Thorny Devil Brewery in Lake Clifton is a tasty destination for lunch.

This hidden gem combines the best of American-style barbecue with a vast range of beers that are as edgy and unique as the Australian reptile that inspired its name.

One of Thorny Devil Brewery’s claim to fame is their collaboration with Danish artist Thomas Dambo during his Giants installation in Mandurah. The owner of Thorny Devil Brewery, saw an opportunity to create something truly special by crafting the “official beer of the giants” – a Danish pilsner. Thomas and his crew frequented the brewery during their work on one of the giants, which is located nearby in a secret spot (about a 3km return bushwalk).

Aside from their craft beers, Thorny Devil Brewery boasts a family-friendly atmosphere set on a spacious five-acre property.

While parents savor their brews and browse the mouthwatering menu, children can get busy around the table with colorful coloring sheets.

And for families looking for a great meal, Thorny Devil Brewery has you covered.

There’s a couple of yummy sliders on the kids’ menu – brisket or pulled pork with chips and slaw.

I’d love to see a fish and chips, or slightly different kid’s option too, to ensure that even the fussy little ones have delicious choices.

The beef brisket burgers, in particular, are a highlight and are sure to satisfy your cravings for smoky, savory perfection. Packed with thick cut saucy brisket, a crisp onion ring, and salad, plus served with fries, this was a big hit.

Kids can play on the lawns and the small playground, explore the boat, clamber on the climbing logs.

And the good news is that there are plans for an even bigger playground in the future, promising more fun for the little ones.

Thorny Devil Brewery is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Forrest Highway, making it a perfect stop for those on a South West road trip or a relaxing weekend drive. It’s the ideal place to unwind, indulge in drool-worthy barbecue, and savor their unique beers.

Whether you’re a local looking for a new favourite hangout or a traveler seeking a memorable lunch stop on your road trip, Thorny Devil Brewery is a great place to stop. With the promise of even more exciting kid-friendly developments on the horizon, Thorny Devil Brewery is a space to watch.

Your taste buds and kids will thank you for making this stop!
