The ultimate guide to the best all-abilities playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new all-abilities parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE and they’re for EVERYONE!
Why are all-abilities playgrounds great?
The wonderful thing about all abilities playgrounds is they are designed for all children. This means kids living with a variety of disabilities, sensory issues and more can enjoy playing too. Because why should they miss out?
Enjoy wheelchair friendly, ramps, swings and roundabouts. Delight the senses with musical play or water play, or kids can get hands-on in mud kitchens or with sand tables with their friends.

Located across from the WA Museum Boola Bardip is the Perth Cultural Centre Playspace, a quirky little play space which has a heavy focus on sensory play. The Playspace is fully fenced and gated and it is open daily from 8am – 7pm. It is recommended that the playspace is suitable most for children aged 6 – 13 years but children under that age can get a lot out of it too. Wow, wow, wow! Shipwreck Cove park in Golden Bay, has totally nailed it! What a fantastic family space and visually it looks stunning! A beautiful green parkland along Golden Bay foreshore, right next to the Indian Ocean. The shipwreck themed park has a playground including a separate fenced area for toddlers, a cool pump track, a cycle and scooter circuit, BBQs, shaded picnic tables, toilets, showers, lots of parking, a stunning new lookout point and beach access. Located in the heart of the new community at Mandogalup, Florence Estate Park is the new playground that beautifully incorporates wooden beams for its play equipment. This spacious playground is nested beside rows of mature trees, providing scenic greenery, and playing in the park feels like you’re right next to nature. My girls headed straight to the main play area, where the big slide is. The tall climbing structure consists of different climbing wall panels for the kids to climb onto. Tucked away in the heart of Gosnells, amongst 22 hectares of wetlands at Mary Carroll Park, you’ll find the brand new all-abilities playground. This new gem blends nature and learning, offering kids a fun and educational space to connect with the outdoors. Street parking and a small car park are available along Eudoria Street in Gosnells. The Perry Lakes Reserve is a 200 acre nature reserve found on the eastern edge of the larger Bold Park reserve in Floreat. There are two playgrounds here, set amongst beautiful trees, large grassed areas and two lakes. The older playground on the western side of the reserve is shaded by trees, it also has the extra sun protection of shade sails throughout. Hillarys Beach Park, Whitfords Nodes Hillarys Beach Park at Whitfords Nodes has undergone a revamp. This family friendly picnic spot now features a new playground including both traditional and nature play equipment. With it’s inclusive design, this park is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! Edwardes Park Nature Playground is an extension to the existing small playground and sits adjacent to a large oval. Made from recycled material it makes a nice addition to the suburban area and utilises material from the Henderson waste treatment facility. Edwardes Park Nature Playground features a double flying fox including one to suit disabled children with an access ramp. Carine Open Space is one of our local and favourite parks to head to on the weekend as there are oodles to do and see. We usually spend a few hours there if it’s nice weather and take the kids scooters/bikes and the dog. This is a big favourite for dog walkers on the weekend and they sometimes have organised sporting comps on at the weekend so it can get busy at peak times. This is a disability friendly playground for both able and less able bodied children. The play structure can be access by a wheelchair friendly ramp and features throughout the structure. Children with good upper body strength can use the various bars to pull themselves up onto the playframe or guide themselves down. Livvi’s Place Playground in Whiteman Edge in Brabham is a unique $1.5 million all-inclusive playground which is a result of a partnership between Stockland and the Touched By Olivia Foundation. The playground is the first Livvi’s Place in Western Australia and has been created through the collaboration and creativity of hundreds of local school children. The Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space is an amazing park purpose built for all ages and abilities. Carefully built around and under existing trees, covering 10,000sq m with wheelchair access throughout, a sensory garden, flying fox, climbing obstacles, slides, swings, picnic areas, water play, toilet facilities and fully fenced… it certainly ticks all the boxes!!! Bracadale Park, All Abilities Playground in Canning Vale, is just that. It is designed so that all kids of varying abilities can enjoy and play. The standout for me is that this park is fully fenced. The Dick Lawrence Oval Playground in Beaconsfield has undergone a massive upgrade. The centrepiece is a 3-level treehouse with a twisty slide and a smaller dual flat slide. To encourage all-inclusive access there are multiple entry points into the cubby – ramp, through the floor ladder, a timber climbing wall and a rock-climbing wall. Claughton Reserve, Bayswater Claughton Reserve, Bayswater, is a picturesque park located by the Swan River. This play space features a nature play area that kids of all ages will love. In addition, there is a colourful fairy trail to be explored. The new playground area at Claughton Reserve was completed in December 2020, and designed to provide a sense of adventure and challenge for children aged 2-12. The design includes accessible pathways and a basket swing to ensure children of all abilities have the opportunity to enjoy the play space.
