The Colony of Midland has always been a family friendly coffee shop but has recently added a kids corner to their busy cafe. The cafe is located on the Crescent opposite the Midland Gate shopping centre. There is roadside parking or a car park behind the group of businesses. Each time I have been to The Colony of Midland I have found it to be a good experience, the staff are friendly, the service efficient and the food and coffee have also been good.
The cafe has outdoor seating and two large rooms inside for seating. There is enough space around tables for a pram to get through and high chairs are available. On our most recent visit we noticed the newly set up kids corner in the back room. The cafe was very busy on this day but we managed to get a table nearby.
The kids’ corner has a kids-size table and chairs and a range of kitchen and food items in the baskets to the side. There is also chalk and a chalkboard. Our little ones had fun playing cafe while we were waiting for our food items to arrive. There are some comfortable armchair-style seating placed nearby the kids’ corner.
The menu also has a kids section with a few reasonably priced choices. There are always delicious specials on the board and a range of cakes in the display cabinet at the front. There is a kids meal deal too which comes with an activity pack. The meal deal includes a choice of drink, meal and dessert all for $13.
The cafe is spacious and bright, with lovely Australian-themed murals and artwork on the wall. You order and pay at the counter and your food and drinks are brought to your table.
We were there for brunch so had a kids eggs and bacon with a hash brown and scrambled eggs on toast for me.
We have also been for lunch where I had The Ruben sandwich which was served with chips and very filling.
The toilets for the cafe are located outside but are kept locked and have been clean the times we have had to use. There is a change table available in there.
The Midland Gate shopping centre is across the road so it’s a handy spot if you want somewhere a little quieter than the food court or usual shopping centre cafes.
