This teeny tiny ice creamery is found in the storybook surrounds of London Court, and well worth seeking out next time you’re in the city. Mica Creamery is a sweet little CBD find that’s perfect for a treat.
For families exploring the city, London Court is always a great spot for a wander. With the old-world laneway feel, historical details and boutique shops, it gives strong Diagon Alley feels, for those Harry Potter fans. Opened in 1937, it isn’t quite medieval *wink*, though the kiddos are sure to enjoy the clocks that chime on the quarter hour and shows a mini jousting tournament. Fun fact – the Hay Street clock shows a tournament of knights, while on St Georges Terrace, the clock shows St George battling a dragon, like in the famous legend.
Anyhoo, I digress – onto gelato! Founded by award-winning Chef Leif Huru, Mica Creamery is a delicious pause in the middle of a city day, especially if little legs are starting to tire. The drawcard, of course, is the gelato. This spot has all the rich, creamy faves and specialises in Asian flavours too. All that’s left to do is choose a cup or cone.
The girls both chose trusty choc mint in a cone and a cup, and said the gelato was really, really good.
I chose one scoop of strawberry sorbet – which was also scrumptious.
There’s also soft drinks, milkshakes and cookies (hello ice cream sandwiches!) available.
Mica Creamery is within walking distance of so many Perth attractions. It works as a reward after browsing the Hay Street Mall, a sweet stop during a city wander, or a convenient treat after a museum visit or train ride into town. For parents, it’s one of those handy little places to keep in mind when planning a low-key city outing. Not every family adventure needs to be high-energy. Sometimes a good old-fashioned ice cream in a cute setting is enough to make the trip feel memorable.
On a warm Perth day, pounding the pavement, Mica Creamery is the perfect stop. Sweet, central and full of -city-laneway charm, it’s a delightful detour in the heart of the CBD.
