Are you looking for a waterfall to visit not far from Perth that is also relatively unknown and quiet? Just 40 minutes from Perth, in the Byford Hills, you will find Marcora Falls.
Parking is available at the end of Beenyup Rd., Byford. Thereโs space for roughly eight cars, but I have never seen it full. There are no toilets or picnic/BBQ facilities here either, so make sure to pack accordingly and donโt forget your water bottle.
In the indigenous language, marcora means wet season, and this waterfall definitely only flows after good rainfall. It is believed that the granite outcrops here are around 400 million years old.
The trail loop is 2.7km, short enough for little legs, but be warned, there are a few flights of stairs.
On the plus side, the views are amazing, and there are a few beautiful spots along the creek to stop and take a break with the kids in between the stairs.
The waterfall itself is about 50 metres from the parking lot, and if you follow the trail up the stairs up to the top, following the stream, and head right to the water instead of left, following the stairs, the stream flattens out for a perfect spot for the little ones to play. Itโs a great idea if youโre short on time or not up for a longer walk.
This trail is dog-friendly, so make sure you bring your furry family member as well. We like to bring a bucket, shovel, a net, and any other random toys to play with in the creek. Trucks are always a winner!
After youโve finished up, why not head back down Beenyup Rd and into Byford for some lunch? Both Dome Cafe and the Byford Tavern are dog-friendly.
