Lucieville Farmstay - Bridgetown.
Bridgetown is a lovely little town about 270kms south of Perth and about 8kms outside of town is Lucieville Farmstay. We stayed for two nights at the end of September.
Lucieville Farmstay offers a variety of accommodation options including the open plan A-frame chalets, two-bedroom A-frame chalets and two large country cottages. The farm offers wonderful views with a dam and a range of farm activities available. All the chalets are fully self-contained, have a wood heater and a washing machine.
We stayed in the open-plan A-frame chalet. There was a mezzanine area with two single beds. In the main open area was a queen-size bed, bathroom, kitchen, dining table, couch and a TV with DVD. The weekend we stayed was a wet wintry weekend so we enjoyed having the open fire in our chalet. There was a few pieces of wood on the deck when we arrived and there was a large wood heap near out chalet for a supply of wood to keep our fire going. We found the chalet was equipped with all the cooking and crockery equipment needed. The chalet had a deck overlooking the dam.

There was a large dam which the chalets were located around. Although the weather was rainy and wet our daughter had fun wandering around the lake and exploring. On the other side of the dam from our chalet was a play area with some climbing frames, small cubby house, a slide and swings. On this side there was also a bbq area with picnic tables.

There are several canoes left on the dam for guests to use at any time. There some old cars and farm equipment around the farm too which are interesting to explore.

Every morning the guests can help in feeding the animals and have a go at milking the cow. We did the animal feeding on both mornings we were there and this takes about an hour. The feeding started in an enclosed area with a kangaroo and a lamb both bottle-fed. The kangaroo was also hand-fed pellets.

We then went to the two calves who were also bottle-fed. The farmer helped out when needed and made sure everyone got a turn feeding. Then we saw the pigs. There was a small pig in a muddy enclosure which was given some food and also bottle-fed. There were some rabbits that were taken out of their cages and the children held. The feeding finished in the milking shed where we were given a chance to milk a cow. Our daughter really enjoyed the feeding session and even one the day it was raining and we were stood out in it she wanted to keep going and be involved with the feeding. She tried milking the cow, each person was given their own cup to milk into and could try the milk.

There were other free activities listed on the website which we didn’t see happening such a spotlighting, ute rides and damper making over a campfire. The farm also offers horse riding escorted trails for children 10 years or older for $40 per saddle up for a 1 hour ride.
Lucieville Farmstay is only a short drive to Bridgetown which has a number of cafes, the pub and shops, including a small Christmas shop.
Our daughter enjoyed the farm stay, she enjoyed the animal feeding sessions and loved having her bed up the ladder in the mezzanine level. If the weather had been better she would have had us out on the dam in a canoe.
