If you have a child who loves digging, building, tipping, filling, loading and creating โ€” or even one who doesnโ€™t yet โ€” Little Builders Perth is one of those places that genuinely surprises. This large-scale indoor sand construction venue at Watertown Brand Outlet Centre is thoughtfully designed for children 10 and under, offering a calmer, more open-ended alternative to the typical noisy indoor play centre.

Little Builders is divided into three main zones that children can move between freely, allowing them to follow their own interests and pace. At the heart of the venue is a huge indoor sandpit filled with clean, soft sand and more than 100 construction-themed toys.

Kids can jump onto ride-on diggers and trucks, fill buckets, push wheelbarrows, stack foam bricks into towers and create their own mini building sites.

There are cones, props and high-vis vests and helmets to complete the construction role-play, and because itโ€™s all indoors, the sand play is weather-proof and much cleaner than your average outdoor sandpit.

Alongside the sandpit is a large ball pit, which is perfect for energetic movement and sensory play between building sessions. Children can dive, jump and roll, before heading back to their โ€œwork siteโ€ to keep creating.

A dedicated foam mat area adds another layer of hands-on fun, with soft blocks and construction pieces, balance equipment and a bench-style workstation equipped with tape measures, toy drills and tools.

Itโ€™s a great spot for fine motor skills, problem-solving and imaginative play, and ideal for kids who like to tinker as much as they like to dig.

A lovely touch is the Little Builder Training Sheet. Children can work through fun, achievable challenges such as building tall towers with foam bricks or safely loading and transporting sand in trucks. Once they complete at least four of the six tasks, they earn the title of Certified Little Builder โ€” a small detail that adds a sense of achievement and excitement to the experience.

The overall atmosphere at Little Builders is calm and spacious, with clear sightlines across all areas, which makes it easier to supervise more than one child. During our visit, Kai (3) spent most of his time in the sandpit, working with other children to see who could build the tallest tower.

He loved being able to move between the sand, ball pit and construction station barefoot, which helped keep transitions relaxed and fuss-free. Despite not being particularly into construction play beforehand, heโ€™s been talking non-stop about trucks and diggers ever since โ€” proof of how inspiring the space can be for sparking new interests.

The staff at Little Builders are another real highlight. Rather than simply supervising, they play alongside the children and follow their lead, asking open-ended questions such as โ€œHow could we make it taller?โ€ and โ€œWhat might make it stronger?โ€ This gentle, child-led approach supports creativity, confidence and problem-solving, and is especially nice to see if you value learning-through-play.

Little Builders is recommended for children 10 years and under, with babies under 1 welcome and free. The space really comes into its own once children are confidently mobile, but it works well for mixed-age groups โ€” during our visit, a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old had just as much fun in their own ways. Sessions run for 90 minutes, capped at 50 children, with a 30-minute cleaning and reset period between each session. This helps keep the space feeling fresh and not overcrowded. If you prefer a quieter visit, weekday and afternoon sessions are usually a good option.

Opening hours are typically 10:00am โ€“ 3:30pm on weekdays, 9:30am โ€“ 5:00pm on Saturdays and 11:00am โ€“ 5:00pm on Sundays, though Sunday sessions may vary for special events. Entry is currently $18.50 per child, $5.00 per adult and free for under 1s. There are no standard family passes at the moment, but itโ€™s worth keeping an eye out for promotions or giveaways. Booking online via the Little Tix website works out cheaper than walk-in tickets, so itโ€™s worth planning ahead.

Being located at Watertown Brand Outlet Centre means parking and facilities are easy. Watertown has more than 1,000 undercover bays, with the Upper Level Deck offering the most convenient access thanks to a pedestrian overpass directly into the centre. As a guide, up to two hours of parking is around $5, and there are ACROD bays available on both the Ground Floor and Upper Level. Toilets, including a Parentsโ€™ Room, are close by on Level 1, and there are plenty of food and coffee options throughout the centre. Inside Little Builders, youโ€™ll find tables and chairs, highchairs and space to sit with snacks or a coffee while the kids play. Food and drinks are welcome, with the exception of the sandpit and ball pit areas.

To make the most of your visit, itโ€™s handy to bring socks (or go barefoot, as shoes are removed on entry), slip-on shoes for quick bathroom trips, and a small beach brush or towel to dust off sand before hopping back in the car. Itโ€™s also worth doing a toilet stop before your 90-minute session, so the kids can stay immersed in play.

If youโ€™re celebrating a birthday, Little Builders offers construction-themed parties and private events. Party packages include a dedicated Party Foreman, private party room, high-vis vests and hard hats, activity tables and unlimited play time within your booking. Packages cater for up to 30 children, and there are options to hire the venue exclusively, making it an exciting choice for little construction fans.

Little Builders Perth ticks a lot of boxes: itโ€™s calm, fully weather-proof, packed with open-ended play opportunities and designed with both children and parents in mind. Itโ€™s ideal for playdates, school holiday outings, homeschool families, rainy days or scorching summer afternoons when outdoor Playgrounds arenโ€™t appealing. Whether your child already loves diggers and dump trucks or is discovering construction play for the first time, this is a space where every child can become a creator, problem solver and confident little explorer โ€” and theyโ€™ll likely leave happily worn out.
