If you are looking for a fun, family-friendly activity to fill this April school holiday, HAMA Productions of Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a lovely option that ticks plenty of boxes for all parents and children!
HAMA Productions is WA’s premier commercial producer of live theatrical entertainment and the winner of multiple Broadway World and PAWA Awards, including Best Musical Theatre Show. From their award-winning producers of smash-hit musicals such as Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz and many more, you won’t want to miss this spectacular show as they take you back under the sea for this timeless classic!

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a story that most children are familiar with, as they meet the beautiful young mermaid named Ariel, who longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.
From the moment the curtains rise, it’s clear this production is designed with a younger audience in mind. The underwater kingdom is brought to life with bright, colourful costumes, playful choreography, and creative staging that keep little ones visually engaged! The story is easy to follow, with a good balance of dialogue, music, and action to prevent any “are we done yet?” moments.

The cast, made up largely of young performers, delivers a genuine enthusiasm that resonates with the audience through their commendable performance. Amy McCann’s performance of Ariel splendidly captures the character’s curiosity and determination with warmth and authenticity. Her vocal performance is a standout, especially during the show’s emotional moments.

There’s also plenty of humour sprinkled throughout the show, especially from the side characters, which keeps both adults and children entertained. Each bringing their own flavour to the stage, the audience will love the lively and well-coordinated performances of Clay Darius as Sebastian, Will Basson as Scuttle, Andy Paterson as Flounder, Charles Sherrington as Prince Eric and Cathy Woodhouse as Ursula.

Musically, the show remains faithful with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken. Fans can expect familiar songs including “Under the Sea”, “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World” delivered enthusiastically.

Little ones that loves The Little Mermaid will be delighted to find a range of merchandise available to purchase at the theatre gift shop too.

So, if you are still planning school holiday activities and want something a bit different from the usual playgrounds and movie trips, HAMA Productions’ The Little Mermaid is a perfect choice. It’s the kind of experience that might just spark a child’s love for theatre and at the very least, it will be a fun afternoon for the whole family to enjoy.
