I was very excited to hear a cafe had opened at Mills Park in Beckenham and even happier when it delivered with great food. Mills Park was a great park before but with the addition of Fika On Brix it’s now even better.
Fika on Brix is located in the Mills Park Centre and has seating overlooking some of the play equipment. Fika is a concept in Swedish (and Finnish) culture with the basic meaning “to have coffee”, often accompanied with pastries, cookies or pie. The cafe has a very clean, fresh, spacious feel to it. There would be room for a pram and there are highchairs available.
We visited mid-morning on a Saturday for brunch and managed to get a table outside overlooking the playground.
The staff were friendly and even though it was quite busy our food and drinks were delivered quite quickly. The menu is mostly breakfast type items, with a few “filler” options and a cabinet of cakes and croissants and Turkish bread sandwiches.
There is also a small kids menu including cheese toastie, waffles with syrup and berries, mini cheeseburger and chips and BBQ chicken, cheese and spinach quesadilla.
You order and pay at the counter. Miss 3 choose “the pink cake“, ( a vanilla cupcake with pink icing) from the cabinet and a cheese toastie. I had the Chicken Katso Bao, the others on the table went for egg and bacon options. While we waited for our meals Miss 3 had a couple of turns on the flying fox as it was within view of the table.
The food was delicious and the coffee was very good. There wasn’t much left on any of the plates including Miss 3. The cupcake was so good we decided to get a couple of takeaway coffee and cakes when we left the park!
After we’d finished eating we took Miss 3 for a play in the park. It is a great park with plenty of different play equipment including water play and a flying fox.
Once we managed to get Miss 3 away from the play equipment we went back and ordered our takeaway. We got a lemon meringue cupcake and a chocolate caramel cupcake. These were also delicious, the vanilla cupcakes were especially moist and the icing was so creamy.
Fika On Brix is a great addition to Mills Park. I’m sure we’ll be visiting again (and again), Miss 3 for the play and me for the coffee, cake and bao!
