If youโre a fellow mum living north of Perth and looking for a new, fresh, and thoughtfully designed space to take your little ones, I highly recommend checking out Discovery Play Early Education in Butler. Itโs located just off the freeway โ easy to spot thanks to clear signage โ and feels like such a breath of fresh air in the play space scene.
We visited for a morning session (9โ11am, ages 0โ5), and from the moment we walked through the door, it was obvious this place had been created with children and parents in mind. The aesthetics are beautiful โ calming tones, well-planned zones, and a clear attention to detail. Sarah, the lovely owner, greeted us with a warm smile and genuinely made us feel welcome. It instantly set the tone for a relaxed, enjoyable morning.
One of the biggest highlights for me was the cleanliness of the centre. You can tell they take hygiene seriously โ between sessions, the entire centre is cleaned and refreshed, so the next group of kids gets the same tidy, beautiful experience as the first. Everything looked spotless, and it gave me real peace of mind with my little ones touching and exploring everything.
The play zones are incredibly creative and varied. Thereโs a hair salon and dress-up station,
a soft play baby area,
an insect zone with books and activities,
a construction site complete with ride-on diggers,
And even a veterinary surgery for budding animal lovers.
Thereโs also a picnic and BBQ outdoor zone where little ones can cook up a storm.
Thereโs a separate seating and eating area, with high chairs available, and the whole centre is gated for safety โ a big tick from this cautious mum. Youโre welcome to bring your own food and drinks, or you can grab a coffee and snacks at the counter (packaged treats and drinks are available). Thereโs generous pram space too, and toilet and changing facilities are conveniently located on-site.
We also loved that it didnโt feel overcrowded like some other places. There was enough space for everyone to play without feeling overwhelmed. Itโs such a great balance of fun and calm โ which, letโs be honest, isnโt always easy to find.
If youโre coming, donโt forget to bring socks (theyโre required for the play zones), a spare change of clothes for messy activities, and water bottles. While we were there, the sensory activity was arts & crafts โ they rotate these daily, and you can check the calendar online for upcoming sessions like African Day, Motherโs Day crafts, and Road Safety Messy Play (how fun is that?).
They also host movie nights for kids aged 4โ10, but those are randomly scheduled, so keep an eye on their website or Facebook page if your little ones would enjoy that.
Itโs also worth noting that, as a brand-new centre, Discovery Play still has room to grow โ and thatโs exciting. While the current setup is fantastic, thereโs definitely potential for small additions that would enhance the experience even more. For example, during our visit, there werenโt quite enough blocks for multiple kids to build together at once, and the ball pit and mud kitchen could benefit from a few more accessories like extra balls, pots and pans. These are minor things that can easily be added as the centre continues to grow and respond to what the families and children enjoy most. Itโs clear theyโre off to an amazing start, and weโre excited to see how they expand and evolve.
From one mum to another โ this place is a gem. So grab your other mama friends and book a session to get out of the house with all the little ones for a fun filled session!
