Located nearby to Lakeside Joondalup, you can find The Pottery Playroom in Joondalup. This pottery cafe and indoor playground is a great space for kids to unleash their creative side!

The Pottery Playroom is bright and spacious, and has a relaxed atmosphere. There is an extensive range of ceramic pieces to paint, from small figures through to large plates and serving dishes. Simply head in, select a piece to paint, and staff will set you up with a table. Bookings aren’t necessary, though in busy periods such as school holidays it can’t hurt to reserve a table, and there are no studio fees to pay. Prices start from around $10 upwards and painting sessions typically run for 90 minutes.

All paints and brushes are laid out ready on the tables. Ceramic pieces are displayed on shelves along one wall with clear pricing. Just pick a favourite and get started.

If you’re not sure on which colours to use, glazed colour charts are on each table to help show what colour each paint will become once glazed and fired.

There are a selection of kids art smocks available to use towards the back of the studio. No stress if your child does not want to wear one though as the paint washes easily out of clothes.

During our visit, Miss 11 and I chose a kittycorn figure and a Christmas tree to paint. Combined, these cost around $52, which covers all the materials and firing.

We found staff at The Pottery Playroom very friendly and helpful. We received a warm greeting when we arrived, and on setting up to paint they came and labelled our items for us, and were helpful with any questions. If you’re not sure how to get started, the staff will guide you.

In addition to pottery, The Pottery Playroom also has a fabulous soft play area which provides great entertainment for small kids when they decide that they need to take a break from painting. My child is too big for this now, but many younger children enjoyed a break from painting to climb and explore, before heading back to paint some more. This area also includes comfy couches for the adults to relax on as they supervise their little ones. Don’t forget to bring some socks for those little feet, or you can purchase a pair from the counter if you forget.

The Pottery Playroom serves a small range of drinks and snacks from their cafe. This includes coffees, teas and drinks for kids, along with biscuits, slices, toasties and more. There are many inexpensive snacks available from the counter as well.

The finished pieces stay with the Pottery Playroom for about a week or two so that they can be fired. You will receive a text when they are ready to be collected. The waiting is the most difficult part of the process. Miss 11 is eagerly waiting to see how her finished kittycorn will turn out.

If you’re looking for something different for your next kids party, The Pottery Playroom also hosts birthday parties. Enjoy an hour long painting session, followed by 30 minutes in the private party room.

Additionally, painting events for adults are held once a month, and the studio can be hired for events such as bridal showers or hens parties too.

Overall, this was an easy and fun experience for both of us. If you’re looking for a family activity, an outing with the grandparents or some school holiday fun, The Pottery Playroom is a great spot to visit! We will definitely go again sometime.
