If you’re looking for a solid family lunch north of the city, Yanchep has a cracking little combo waiting for you. A brilliant foreshore playground or paddle on the beach followed by lunch (or dinner) at Yanchep Beach Club, which sits literally right across from the playground. No faff, no long drive between stops. Just tick both off in one visit. Plus, Yanchep Beach Club has a handy take away window – perfect for grab and go coffees, babycinos and snacks to enjoy on the grass.

We popped into Yanchep Beach Club for an early lunch. The menu has woodfired pizzas, shared plates and pub-style classics. Mr H went straight for the smash burger with double cheese, a secret sauce, red onion jam, frankie’s pickles, and chip. He declared it a win (especially with a super soft, fresh bun) and that we have to return to try more of the menu soon.
I had the brisket tacos, with pickled red cabbage, chipotle mayo, crispy onions. These easy share morsels were fab for a light lunch – deep flavour, plenty of meaty-goodness and gluten free to boot.

There’s a kid’s menu, which at first glance seems on the pricey side. We didn’t have the kiddos with us this time (we didn’t realise how family friendly the area was), so can’t comment on whether the price id offset with high-quality ingredients and/or a generous portion.
It’s a relaxed coastal spot with a good vibe, and the fact it opens from 11:30am Monday to Thursday (and noon on weekends) means you can time it nicely after a morning at the playground. We even saw a curious blue tongue lizard in the alfresco area.
To the playground… Capricorn Beach Foreshore Adventure Playground is ocean-themed and set on a hilly-dune. There are two distinct sides; one with big slides, climbing and features for older kids. The big tunnel slides are the star of the show – kids will spend a good chunk of time racing each other down and arguing about which slide is fastest. Getting back up involves a cargo rope obstacle (brilliant for burning energy) or stairs if they’re done with the challenge. There’s also a rope roundabout in the sand that’s a big hit.
The other side of the dune is in view of the restaurant’s outdoor area, is aimed at toddlers and younger children. This area has stepping logs, a wooden seesaw, a small climbing structure with a slide, a wooden boat and a basket swing – so littlies aren’t left out.
The playground also has BBQs, picnic shelters, a drinking fountain and plenty of grass to run around.
Capricorn Beach is accessible straight from the playground, so bring swimmers and a towel. There’s even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand before you head to lunch.
Head to the end of Capricorn Esplanade in Yanchep, go right at the roundabout for the lagoon carpark, and you’ve got yourself an easy, enjoyable family afternoon.
