Noble Falls is a muchโ€‘loved Perth Hills spot where families can combine a relaxed bush picnic, easy walk and a play by the water, all less than an hour from the CBD. Located just past the township of Gidgegannup on Toodyay Road, the picnic area and walk trail sit directly opposite the Noble Falls Tavern, making it simple to turn a day in nature into a full family outing.

The picnic area is spacious and shaded by tall trees, with the gentle sound of the waterfall and Wooroloo Brook setting a peaceful, country atmosphere. Families will find plenty of picnic tables dotted around, as well as free electric barbecues so you can bring everything for a sausage sizzle without needing extra equipment. A drinking fountain and public toilets (including accessible facilities) are on site, and thereโ€™s ample parking in the main car park right by the trailhead and picnic space.

Kids are naturally drawn straight to the water. Noble Falls is not a huge waterfall, but itโ€™s ideal for little adventurers. The falls and brook are easily accessible from the picnic area, and children love paddling in the shallows, wading across the top of the rocks and exploring the stream below. There are lots of opportunities for nature play โ€“ making leaf boats, building rock dams and spotting small fish or tadpoles at certain times of year.

The rocks can be slippery when wet, so itโ€™s wise to pack spare clothes, a towel and sturdy shoes or sandals you donโ€™t mind getting wet. In wetter months the flow is stronger and more spectacular, while in drier times it becomes a gentler trickle thatโ€™s perfect for younger kids to explore more independently.

If you prefer to keep your feet dry, a footbridge a little further downstream offers a lovely vantage point over the water without needing to clamber over rocks. This is handy for prams or less confident walkers and makes it easy for all ages to enjoy the views.

Alongside the creek, there is a simple Playground area shaded by surrounding trees. The equipment includes a climbing frame, monkey bars, a couple of slides and two swings. Itโ€™s basic but gives children a change of pace from the bush and water play and works well for toddlers and younger schoolโ€‘aged kids.

For families keen to stretch their legs, the Noble Falls Walk Trail starts directly from the picnic and parking area. Classified as an easy, Class 2 bush walk, the main loop is approximately 3.6km and generally takes around an hour, though you can take longer with kids, photo stops and snack breaks. The trail crosses a footbridge at the start and then follows Wooroloo Brook past the falls and through pretty bushland, before looping back towards the car park. The surface is mostly modified or hardened with gentle hills and clear signage, making it suitable for most ages and for those with limited bushwalking experience. Some sections are along or close to the bitumen road, which is worth knowing in advance with children and dogs, but much of the walk meanders beside the water with plenty of shady spots to stop and play.

Trail users are encouraged to follow the red markers for the full 3.6km loop; itโ€™s an easy, familyโ€‘friendly distance and gives the best mix of creek views and bush scenery. The walk is accessible yearโ€‘round, but the ideal time to visit is between July and October when the falls are flowing well and the surrounding bushland comes alive with wildflowers. During wildflower season you can spot colourful blooms lining parts of the trail, adding another layer of interest for little nature lovers.

Noble Falls is dogโ€‘friendly, and dogs are allowed off leash as long as they are under full control. With water to splash in, open space, and a manageable trail length, itโ€™s a fantastic outing for fur kids too. Just remember to bring water for your dog, pick up after them and be mindful of other visitors and wildlife.

There are a few important things for families to keep in mind. Open fires are not permitted due to fire restrictions, but the free electric barbecues provide a safe cooking option. The picnic area is not a designated rest area, so overnight camping is not allowed. As with any bush walk, itโ€™s a good idea to bring hats, sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of drinking water, particularly in warmer months, as well as snacks or a simple picnic lunch. The loop distance is short enough that older kids can comfortably complete it, but you may want to bring a carrier for toddlers or be prepared to turn back early if little legs get tired.

For those wanting to make more of a day trip, the Noble Falls Tavern sits directly opposite the car park and is a popular spot to pop into for a drink or familyโ€‘friendly meal after your walk. You can also combine a visit to Noble Falls with other Perth Hills or Swan Valley attractions nearby, including wineries, farm gates and additional bush trails.

With its combination of picnic facilities, easy walk, gentle waterfall, dogโ€‘friendly access and classic Aussie bush scenery, Noble Falls is an excellent choice for a simple, lowโ€‘cost family adventure close to Perth. Whether you stay by the water building rock dams, wander the full loop trail, or just enjoy a shady picnic while the kids explore the Playground and tree swing, itโ€™s the kind of place that keeps families coming back across the seasons.
