If you are looking for a family café spot that is as Instagram-worthy as it is delicious, YY café in Maylands deserves a spot on your must-visit list!
From the moment you walk in, you will be greeted by an explosion of pink décor, adorable Hello Kitty touches everywhere, a huge Jellycat plushie collection, and a cosy atmosphere that instantly puts a smile on your face. It is definitely the kind of place that feels playful without sacrificing its food quality, which everyone will enjoy.
The cute pink interiors and playful touches were an instant hit with my girls, making it more than just a place to eat- it felt like a little outing itself for them. It’s also fantastic that little ones get colouring pencils and paper (of course, it’s Hello Kitty) to colour while they wait for their meals.
What really surprised me was that YY café isn’t just about aesthetics; their food genuinely delivers authenticity too. Their menu blends café favourites with Asian-inspired dishes, offering everything from hearty breakfasts to burgers, pasta, and comforting Asian favourites like beef noodle soup and laksa. It’s a refreshing mix that caters to both brunch lovers and those craving something a little different.
We ordered the Beef Noodles Soup and Popcorn Chicken, and it was just as yummy and filling for brunch.
The drinks menu is just as extensive- we had the Matcha Latte, which is smooth and well-made, making it the perfect companion for our quick brunch. If you are in the mood for something sweeter, their creative milkshakes and frappes are just as impressive as the food and fit perfectly with the café’s fun personality.
One standout feature for families is the kids’ menu. There are many kid-friendly options that children can choose from. The kid’s meal is well-portioned, tasty and perfect for younger appetites.
Missy 8 had the Beef Burger for $19, which came with a juice and chips. Adding to the café’s theme, the kid’s meal came in a Mickey Mouse plate, mat and utensils- even the adults’ meal plates are Mickey-themed too!
We loved that their service was warm, friendly, and welcoming, which added to the relaxed café vibe. The café isn’t very spacious, so it can get packed during peak hours. Baby chairs are provided, and there are 2 extra tables outside the café to dine at. Note that their toilets are across the street, not inside the café, and parking is available along the streets.
Overall, YY café is much more than a themed café. It combines great drinks, flavour-packed food and a unique atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere in Perth. If you are after a brunch or catch-up destination that is both memorable and delicious for the family, this adorable Maylands find is definitely worth a visit.
