If youโre looking for a simple, affordable family outing that gets everyone outside and off screens, a visit to Swan Valley Fresh Fruit is a lovely option. This relaxed, family-friendly vineyard in Baskerville is dedicated entirely to pick-your-own fruit, so thereโs no rush, no tours to keep up with and plenty of space for children to explore at their own pace.

The vineyard rows are wide and easy to walk along, making it perfect for little legs. Kids will love wandering between the vines, spotting the ripest bunches and enjoying the occasional cheeky taste test as they help fill the bags. Because the property is solely used for pick-your-own, thereโs a generous amount of fruit and families can spread out without feeling crowded.

Grapes are currently priced at $7 per kilo, making it a very budget-friendly day out and much cheaper than supermarket prices. Youโll find several seedless varieties to choose from, including Flame Seedless, Dawn Seedless and Melanie Seedless, so you can pick a mix of flavours and colours to take home.

In addition to the grapes, thereโs often a small selection of seasonal fruit available to purchase. On our visit this included Kensington mangoes at $40 per tray and seedless watermelon at $2.50 per kilo โ ideal for stocking up on refreshing summer snacks for the week ahead.

Swan Valley Fresh Fruit is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8:30am to 4:00pm, and entry is free. You simply pay for what you pick. The vineyard is easy to find at 136 Memorial Avenue, Baskerville, directly opposite Baskerville Oval, and there is plenty of street parking available right out the front.
As youโll be out in the sun, itโs a good idea to come prepared with hats, sunscreen and water for the whole family. If you forget drinks, cold bottled water is available to purchase for $2 per bottle. You are encouraged to bring your own bags, boxes and scissors for cutting bunches from the vines. While Swan Valley Fresh Fruit can provide these, they can run low during busy periods, particularly on scissors, so packing your own can save waiting.

Payment is simple and flexible โ cash is preferred, but card facilities are also available if needed.
Once youโve finished picking, you can treat the kids (and yourself!) to a soft serve ice cream before heading home with sticky fingers, happy faces and a box full of freshly picked grapes. Itโs the kind of old-fashioned, hands-on family experience that feels wonderfully relaxed and creates the sweetest memories.
