Riverton Leisureplex remains one of the City of Canning’s best family hubs, offering a full day out for kids of all ages. The complex centres around its aquatic facilities, but also connects families with a huge range of children’s programs through the Canning leisure centres – from swimming lessons and holiday activities to a play centre, crèche and birthday party options.
The main leisure pool is a big drawcard for families with young children. It features a gradual beach-style entry, making it easy to walk in with prams, crawlers and toddlers, and much less intimidating for nervous little swimmers. Various interactive water features keep kids entertained and encourage them to splash, play and gain confidence in the water at their own pace.
Alongside the leisure pool is a three-lane 25m lap pool that’s ideal for gentle lap swimming or walking laps if you’re visiting with kids but still want to squeeze in some exercise.
Older kids and more confident swimmers are well catered for too. Riverton Leisureplex is home to a full-size 50m Olympic pool, used by swim squads, lap swimmers and for general fitness.
Riverton also has a dedicated “bombie pool” – a deep pool where bombies and jumping are allowed – which is usually open from 1pm to 4pm on weekends and daily during school holidays, subject to staffing and occasional closures for Swim School.

The Riverton Leisureplex waterslide is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm, and during school holidays it operates every day at the same times. The slide is closed on public holidays. Please note that waterslide opening hours are subject to staff availability, so it’s always worth checking before you go. For safety reasons, children must be over the age of six to ride.
Beyond casual swimming, the Leisureplex is also a gateway to a wide range of organised children’s activities run by the City of Canning. The Canning Swim School offers structured swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, blending water safety with fun, progressive skill development. During school holidays, families can tap into dedicated holiday programs, with a changing schedule of activities that make the most of the pool and wider leisure facilities. There are also children’s fitness programs designed to keep kids active and healthy, introducing them to movement and exercise in a fun, age-appropriate way.
For parents looking to work out, swim laps or even pop into the library in peace, the on-site crèche is a huge bonus. Crèche sessions allow parents to enjoy the facilities knowing their little ones are well looked after nearby. For everyday play, the City’s Leisureplexes also feature a dedicated Play Centre for children aged 0–8 years. This colourful, air-conditioned indoor play space includes two slides, a small flying fox and a ball pit, plus a separate area just for tiny tots – ideal for rainy days or when you want to combine a swim with some dry play. The Leisureplexes also offer children’s group packages and birthday party options, so you can celebrate with a swim, slide or play session at the centre without the stress of hosting at home.
Around the pools, families will find a café with tables and chairs overlooking the leisure pool, perfect for grabbing a snack or coffee while the kids have a break from the water.
There is also outdoor seating and a large grassy area, giving you space to spread out, picnic-style, on warmer days. Change rooms are generously sized, with room for prams and ramp access that makes the facility more accessible for families with young children, people with mobility needs and anyone juggling bags and floaties.
