The Lighthouse Hotel in Bunbury has long been an institution, but it’s recent renovations make it the perfect spot for families to spend a few nights while visiting the South West. Perched high on a hill overlooking the ocean it is next to the iconic Bunbury lighthouse, so it is easy to find when driving through the town.
The hotel has many different types of rooms, with most being fully renovated. We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite which was amazing! The room had a kitchenette, dining area, lounge, separate master bedroom and huge bathroom with jetted tub. The king size bed in the master was super comfy and the kids shared the pull out sofa in the lounge room. There was a tv in each room and a heavy frosted glass sliding door separating the two so noise was not a problem.
The best feature of our room was the double length balcony, accessed from the lounge and the bedroom it had spectacular views of the lighthouse and the coast. We ended up putting the dining table out there and eating all our meals outside. The sunsets were amazing! And although the hotel has a stunning restaurant overlooking the ocean we just couldn’t pass up our private balcony!
The beach across the road is a great place to spend time on sunny days. It is a wide sandy beach with rocky sections, perfect for exploring. The fishing on this stretch is also good. There are a few playgounds along the coast with the new Koombana Bay playground only a 2min drive away.
On cooler days you can relax in the fully enclosed heated pool. It has a very shallow toddler pool, normal pool and a spa. The whole area is enclosed with glass with views of the lighthouse and also has a sauna and pool table.
We loved this hotel and the location was perfect, walking distance to the beach, the shops, cafes and restaurants found in the city centre. It was reasonably priced, had free wifi, free off-street parking and the in-room kitchenette helped keep costs down. It’s a great place to stay in Bun-vegas or as a stop-over when travelling further south.
