If youโre looking for a wholesome, low-fuss family outing that feels like a little slice of country life without leaving Perth, Masonโs Family Farm in Anketell is a must-visit. Tucked on the corner of Anketell and Battersby Road, this friendly family-run spot is part farm shop, part mini animal experience, and all-round feel-good place to spend an hour or two with the kids.

Masonโs began back in 2005 as a humble family egg farm in Kojonup, and has grown over the years into the much-loved brand many Perth families now recognise on supermarket shelves. Their Anketell farm shop is where you can experience a bit of that farm life up close โ think cheeky goats, clucky chooks, and some of the freshest eggs youโll ever take home.

The biggest hit with children is the goat Playground. This is a large, fenced area dedicated to their very cute and very curious goats, complete with climbing structures where they can bounce and clamber about. Entry to the goat area is completely free, and staff provide feed so kids can safely hand-feed the goats from inside the pen. If youโre lucky, you might even visit at a time when baby goats are being bottle-fed, which is a real treat for little animal lovers. Parents can stand back and relax along the fence line while still being close enough to supervise and snap photos.

Alongside the goats, children can wander over to the chicken pen to see where some of those famous Masonโs eggs begin their journey. Itโs a lovely, gentle way for kids to learn where their food comes from and to connect the dots between the animals on the farm and the cartons in the fridge at home.

To burn off even more energy, thereโs a fenced sand play area, giving younger children a safe, contained spot to dig and play. Itโs simple, old-school fun that pairs perfectly with the laid-back farm setting and doesnโt require any screens or flashing lights to keep them happy.

While there isnโt a sit-down cafรฉ on-site, there is a coffee van, so grown-ups can grab a takeaway coffee and a quick bite while the kids explore. As thereโs no formal seating, be prepared to perch, wander with your cup, or enjoy your treats back at the car. Itโs more of a โgrab and goโ refreshment stop than a linger-over-brunch sort of cafรฉ.

No visit to Masonโs Family Farm is complete without popping into the farm shop. This is where their famous free-range eggs take centre stage, with fun, characterful sizing like Tiny Tess (500g), Big Barrie (860g), and even impressive double yolkers that kids will be excited to crack at home. The eggs are laid by happy hens and collected, packed and sold with a strong focus on quality and freshness.

The shelves are also stocked with a generous range of local goodies from WA producers. Youโll find seasonal fruit and veggies (including produce from an orchard in Donnybrook), honey, oats, jams, chutneys, relishes, sauces, confectionery, nuts, cheeses, herbs and spices, stocks, baked treats, coffee and tea, and even gift items and farm-branded merchandise. Itโs an easy place to pick up a few โnice to haveโ pantry treats as well as your basics. The shop space itself is quite compact, so itโs best to leave prams outside while you browse to avoid congestion inside.

Practicalities are straightforward and family-friendly. There is free parking available along the street, and the farmโs location just off Anketell Road makes it an easy drive from many southern suburbs. Between the animals, sandpit and shop, you can comfortably fill a morning or afternoon without it feeling overwhelming for younger children.
Masonโs Family Farm has a welcoming, down-to-earth feel that suits toddlers, primary-aged kids and even older children who still enjoy animals and farm life. Itโs an ideal stop for families wanting a relaxed outing, a quick animal fix, and some beautiful fresh produce to take home โ all while supporting a local WA farming family.
