If you had told me that going to exercise classes would become one of my favourite things to do during pregnancy, I never would have believed you. But here we are โ€” second pregnancy โ€” and it’s still such a highlight of my week. Iโ€™ve now attended FitRightโ€™s Bump&Me classes through both of my pregnancies, and I can confidently say itโ€™s been one of the best things Iโ€™ve done for myself each time.

FitRight offers three different Bump & Me classes throughout the week โ€“ Bump & Me Studio, Bump & Me Circuit, and Bump & Me Aqua.
The Studio class is mat-based, featuring Pilates-inspired exercises, low-impact cardio, and stretching. Youโ€™ll use fit-balls, hand weights, resistance bands, and the class structure changes each week to keep it fresh.

The Circuit class is held in their clinical Pilates studio and utilises the reformer and other spring-resisted machines, as well as dumbbells and kettlebells, to create a strength-based circuit with a maximum of 5 women.
The Aqua class is water-based and perfect if youโ€™re experiencing back or pelvic pain. The water makes movement feel effortless โ€” I honestly barely noticed I was working out because it just felt so good to be weightless for a change!

During my last pregnancy, in 2022, I had the joy of going to both Studio and Aqua classes.  This time around, with a bit more demanding home life, Iโ€™ve had to choose just one; opting for land over water and attending the weekly Studio class which are held in a charming scout hall in Ardross. It was a tough choice as both classes are great in their own ways!

Iโ€™m a repeat customer because Taryn and the team at FitRight do an incredible job of not only delivering a fantastic, physiotherapist-led workout, but also creating a welcoming, supportive space for connection with other expectant mamas.

FitRight has been running classes in Perth for over a decade, and you can tell โ€” everything about the sessions feels thoughtful, informed, and expertly designed. Each class ticks off your pelvic floor exercises for the day (thank you!), includes mobility sequences that feel amazing on a changing, stretching body, and provides cardio and resistance training thatโ€™s safe, effective, and refreshingly low-impact. All the movement is tailored specifically for the pregnant body, with a view to postpartum recovery, including things like wrist strengthening to prepare for all the baby-carrying ahead.

As someone who has struggled with debilitating pelvic girdle pain in both pregnancies, my exercise options have been really limited. Thatโ€™s why it was essential for me that FitRightโ€™s classes arenโ€™t just physio-designed, but actually physio-led. Taryn always keeps my condition in mind and offers modifications that allow me to stay active without making things worse. I feel safe, supported, and seen every time I go.

But these classes arenโ€™t just about movement โ€” you learn so much. Each week, Taryn and the other instructors share little nuggets of evidence-based womenโ€™s health info, seamlessly woven into the flow of the class. Itโ€™s like a combination of movement, mindfulness, and mini masterclass โ€” all in one
session.

What surprised me most, though, is how much attending Bump&Me helped me reconnect with my pregnancy this time around. With a busy two-year-old at home, my second pregnancy naturally got less attention. But once I started FitRight again, it nudged me into a more intentional space. I began listening to birth podcasts, practising pelvic floor exercises throughout the week, and mentally preparing for birth and postpartum again. That 50 minutes a week, being around other expectant mamas, focusing on my body, created a ripple effect that helped me make space for myself.

The connection with other participants is just as valuable as the exercise. Thereโ€™s time every week to check in, swap stories, and just chat โ€” usually guided by a discussion topic from Taryn. I even reconnected with a mama I met in my first pregnancy, now also pregnant with her second. We picked up right where we left off, sharing the joys and challenges between sets. These casual conversations have become one of my favourite parts of the class, and I always leave feeling lighter, both mentally and physically.

If youโ€™re pregnant and looking for something that supports your body, mind, and sense of community, I canโ€™t recommend FitRight highly enough. No matter how tired I am from chasing a toddler around all day, I always make the effort to get to Bump&Me, and Iโ€™m always glad I did.

Bump&Me class locations are in Ardross, Applecross, and Oโ€™Connor.
FitRight also provides Baby&Me and Toddler&Me exercise classes for Mums, with locations in Ardross and North Perth.
Health fund rebates are available under Physio Exercise Class codes. A consultation with a physiotherapist must take place before classes commence to be eligible for a rebate – this can be done with the team of Women’s Health Physiotherapists at FitRight HQ in Applecross, or elsewhere.
