Making its global debut, Empress Joséphine’s Garden is a modern, immersive, large-screen digital experience that transported our family—complete with a curious toddler and sleepy baby—into the fascinating world of Empress Joséphine Bonaparte’s legendary Parisian garden.
This groundbreaking exhibition explores the little-known story of how one remarkable woman transformed Château de Malmaison into a living encyclopedia of global botanical wonders. She gathered treasures like black swans, kangaroos, and vibrant flora from Australia, showcasing her passion for nature and a fascination with the unknown. Her story reflects an era of exploration, cultural exchange, and scientific breakthroughs. Even if you don’t know her history, this exhibit makes it accessible, leaving you with a story that feels timeless and worth knowing.
While waiting to enter, visitors can relax in a beautifully staged flower garden—crafted entirely from paper. This intricate display sets the mood, combining art and nature to create a serene and photo-worthy moment.
Nearby, the gift shop offers exhibit-specific keepsakes, letting you take home a piece of Joséphine’s world.
The immersive experience itself is the highlight, with vivid imagery and atmospheric soundscapes. Swans glide, exotic flowers bloom, and lush landscapes unfold in every direction, creating a 360-degree spectacle. Spacious and welcoming, it’s a space where families can explore together, and children can delight in the colours and movement.
Open for free this summer (online booking required), Empress Joséphine’s Garden beautifully blends history and technology to tell a story of nature, art, and global connection. Whether you visit for the visuals, the history, or simply a moment of shared wonder, this 45-minute experience is an inspiring journey into a vibrant and unforgettable world.
