Churchman Brook Dam

Just a short drive from Armadale, nestled in the beautiful Perth hills, you’ll discover Churchman Brook Dam. This peaceful picnic spot, built in the 1920s, is a source of our drinking water in Perth.

The dam’s grassy parkland is a perfect location for a family picnic. Its wide, open spaces are perfect for laying down a picnic blanket or setting up a gazebo. You can also find numerous tables and shelters scattered throughout the area. You could choose one by the brook at the base of the dam or select a table close to the new nature-style playground.

For the barbecue lovers, the dam provides plenty of free BBQ facilities for a delicious family sausage sizzle. There’s plenty of toilets too.

At Churchman Brook Dam, you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring and enjoying the sights. For the little ones, there’s an awesome nature-style playground filled with exciting equipment, like a slide, play shop, monkey bars, sand play and swings.

Next to the playground, you’ll find a huge grassy area perfect for family sporting activities, so remember to bring along a ball or your favourite sports gear, for a fun family game.

And we can’t forget the main attraction: the beautiful Churchman Brook Dam. The large body of water is a bit low nowadays (we visited in June). On a sunny day, the sight of the turquoise blue water against the deep red rock of the hills, coupled with the peaceful bushland in the background, is so good for the soul.

Kids can also explore the surrounding bushland. The area has an easy walk tracks winding through the forest that everyone, regardless of their age or fitness level, can enjoy. We did find these a little hard to find, unless we missed the signs? Your little explorers will love discovering interesting things on the forest floor, and intriguing flora and wildlife.

Churchman Brook Dam is a fab day out in the beauty of the Perth Hills, and a cheap day in the great outdoors with your family.
