The Canning Bridge precinct, you know, that area of Applecross and Mount Pleasant that’s found right on the river, is getting brighter by the minute! Now home to a growing collection of 25+ striking murals by a mix of local legends and high-profile street artists, as well as a ‘hidden’ gallery – it’s a different way to spend a morning exploring. Download the Murals of Canning Bridge Art Walk handbook and delve into a colourful side of suburban Perth you didn’t even know existed. It great, FREE fun!

The City of Melville’s self-guided walking tour can be done anytime. Each mural tells its own story, adding colour, creativity and loads of personality to the once bland walls around Canning Bridge. Take photos, chat about what you think the artwork means (kids can come out with the best theories!), and enjoy a little exploring in your own backyard.

For me, the highlight is the bridge itself. Having driven over Canning Bridge hundreds of times – I never knew what lied just beneath the bitumen.

This has GOT to be one of the quirkiest art galleries I’ve ever seen!

It’s also a very popular fishing spot for families.

Take a look around, the eastern end is the most accessible, with a short decked area. Take plenty of photos and please respect the artworks.

Prefer someone else to lead the way? Guided mural tours are running through local tour company Oh Hey WA (who will have all the fun facts!) until May 2026. This pretty little pocket of Perth has plenty of cafes and restaurants to stop for a snack, brunch or coffee. Check out Kinky Lizard or Praline Cafe. You might even sport more street art…

The iced lattes at Kinky Lizard are great! Kevin Bynder’s beautiful mural represents the Canning Bridge area’s indigenous heritage.

Looking for a lunch spot? The Rowing Pavilion, right on the river, is easily found if you keep your eyes peeled for the giant purple swan by ‘Misermisermiser”.

Simply download the handbook to your phone – easy!

For families, thereโs also a kidsโ companion activity: The Canning Bridge Scavenger Hunt designed to help little ones engage with the artworks in a fun, interactive way. You can download it from the Cityโs website or use the QR code you may find along your wander.

These beautiful BIG murals make a great excuse to explore somewhere โnewโ to you in Perth. This Amok Island pelican (with beautiful colour palate) is my favourite.

There are a few car parks and street parking (paid) found around the Canning Bridge Precinct, or why not catch the bus.
