Taking the kiddos for a bike ride around the Swan River? Be sure to take a pit stop at Café du Point. The cafe is found near the Swan River at Point Fraser, at the On The Point complex, which is home to a restaurants and Long Neck Brewery. What makes it so family friendly is the playground opposite.
We (my dog and I) popped in for a quick coffee while my son was fishing nearby, another fun thing to do by the river.
The outdoor patio is partially shaded and dog friendly, and the friendly staff brought out water for Ruby.
I ordered my no-fuss flat white. It arrived in a big, pretty mug – strong, smooth and exactly what I needed first thing in the morning.
Café du Point offers a good range of drinks, including loose leaf teas, iced drinks, fresh juices, milkshakes and smoothies. The all‑day breakfast menu is very tempting, think eggs benedict, a smoked salmon rosti, pancakes and a classic big breakfast. Plus, plenty of choices in the cabinet if you to take it away to enjoy by the river, picnic style. And of course, there is a kids’ menu and highchairs. Options include eggs on toast, pancakes with fruit, toasties and chicken nuggets.
The location is perfect if you feel like stretching your legs before or after your coffee. The neighboring Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve is a nature‑based play area right on the Swan River. The huge climbing nets make it ideal for school‑aged kids who love climbing, balancing and exploring, with river views and wetlands around.
There’s a shared path along the river, and you can go for a stroll or even hire a bike, tandem or fun quad-cycle from About Bike Hire and head off exploring.
On The Point is very close to the new Boorloo Bridge, which crosses over Heirisson Island (be sure to visit the kangaroos!) to Victoria Park, opening up even more walking options.
Parking is paid, with a large carpark just off Riverside Drive. It’s close and convenient, and the first hour is free. Café du Point is a lovely riverside option for coffee, brunch or a casual meet‑up, with the bonus of a playground and dog‑friendly outdoor seating.
