Boston Brewery, part of Willoughby Park Winery just out of the Denmark town centre, is one of those places that makes a family holiday in the Great Southern feel extra relaxed. It ticks all the classic country brewery boxes – big open spaces, an easygoing beer‑garden vibe, locally made beer and wine, and plenty to keep kids happy while the grown‑ups enjoy a long lunch.

Inside, the venue centres around a huge dining hall with loads of room for prams and larger groups. On cooler Denmark days the open fire makes it feel especially cosy, and it’s the kind of space where you can spread out with colouring, a few toys and all the paraphernalia that comes with eating out with kids. Large windows draw your eye out across the lawns and vines, so even when you’re indoors it still feels very “south west”.

When the sun is shining, most families naturally gravitate to the expansive lawned beer garden. Picnic tables are dotted across the grass, many with umbrellas for shade, and there’s a lovely outlook over the vineyard. It’s very easy to lose a few hours here as the kids run back and forth between the tables and the Playground while you sip something cold and work your way through the menu.

The Playground is a big hit with younger visitors. Set in a large sandpit, it has a good mix of equipment to suit different ages, including a slide, rope climbing frame, a little “shop” for imaginative play, a see‑saw, a fast‑spinning roundabout and a smaller slide that works well for toddlers. Because it’s right by the beer garden, you can usually supervise from your table, which makes it much more relaxing if you’ve got multiple children wanting to play.

Food‑wise, Boston Brewery still punches well above standard pub grub. The current menu leans into relaxed, shareable dishes and hearty mains – think snacks and small plates that are easy to graze on with a tasting paddle, generous burgers, club‑style favourites, fresh salads and a good line‑up of pizzas. There’s a clear focus on quality Great Southern produce, with plenty of kid‑friendly options and choices for vegetarians and gluten‑free diners. Seasonal specials appear regularly, so there’s usually something new to try alongside the classics that work perfectly for a long, lazy session in the beer garden.

Alongside the food, adults can explore Boston Brewing Co’s range of beers and Mabel Fox cider, or opt for a glass or bottle from Willoughby Park’s wines. Being able to sample the local drops while the kids are happily occupied is exactly what makes this spot so attractive for families passing through Denmark or staying nearby.

With its big grassy beer garden, sand‑based Playground, welcoming dining hall and honest, tasty food, Boston Brewery is an easy recommendation for families visiting Denmark. Whether you drop in for a lazy lunch overlooking the vines or a relaxed early dinner before bedtime, it’s the sort of place that keeps both kids and grown‑ups smiling.

They don’t have the shade sails up at the moment and no kiddie corner inside so definitely less options (jan 2023)
