Joondalupโ€™s Central Park has been transformed into a glowing wonderland with Bloom: Luna Light Journey, running nightly from 26 September โ€“ 26 October 2025. This immersive light and sound experience is the first of its kind in Perth, created by Laservision and presented in partnership with the City of Joondalup.

We had the chance to explore Bloom with our nearly three-year-old and it was nothing short of magical. Hereโ€™s everything parents and caregivers need to know before heading along.

What is Bloom?

Bloom is an interactive nighttime experience that brings nature and storytelling together through light, colour, sound and projection.

The Story Behind the Lights

At the heart of Bloom is the journey of the blue banded bee. Families follow him as he braves drought, fire and darkness, calling on the voices of the night to restore colour and life to the land. This story unfolds through breathtaking light installations, projections, soundscapes and interactive displays, helping children connect with natureโ€™s resilience in a magical way.

Our Experience

A Toddlerโ€™s Perspective

Kai was mesmerised from the moment we stepped inside. He loved exploring at his own pace, darting from one glowing installation to the next. While I might have lingered longer at some areas, it was so special watching him completely immersed, wide-eyed and reluctant to leave.

The blue laser tunnel with smoke effects was the absolute highlight โ€” a breathtaking 360-degree moment where he was awe-struck, unable to believe his eyes.

The interactive elements at the end, including glowing spheres and a movable floral light installation, also captured his imagination.

Accessibility for Families

The path is pram- and wheelchair-accessible, though toddlers may be too excited to sit still! Kai was eager to walk (and run), exploring every corner. Parents should be aware that while some water areas are fenced, others are not, so little ones need close supervision in the dark.

Portable toilets are available towards the end of the trail and well-lit signs help guide families while explaining the story as you move along.

Tips for Parents

  • Glow toys: Light wands are sold at the entrance, but bringing your own is more economical.
  • Snacks & jackets: Bring snacks for little ones and a jacket or blanket for cooler evenings.
  • Pram or carrier: The trail is pram-friendly, though toddlers may prefer to walk. A carrier could be handy for younger children.
  • Keep an eye out: Be mindful of water features and encourage gentle handling of the glowing spheres to preserve the experience.
  • Arrival: Aim to arrive 10โ€“15 minutes early to ease waiting times and parking. Free street parking close to the exit made leaving easy and gave us the option to check out Joondalup Night Markets afterwards.

Food and Drink

Thereโ€™s plenty nearby to eat before or after the show. On Saturday evenings, local food trucks set up at Boas Avenue for the Joondalup Night Markets, offering dinner options, Dutch pancakes, fresh juices and more. Otherwise, Joondalupโ€™s restaurants, cafes and takeaway spots are just a short stroll away.

We brought our own snacks for Kai, which worked well as he didnโ€™t want to stop exploring.

Session Times & Tickets

Bloom runs every night from 26 September โ€“ 26 October 2025, with entry times every 15 minutes. Families can choose a session that suits their bedtime routines:

  • Low-sensory session: 6:45pm (smaller crowds, gentler lighting, earlier finish).
  • General sessions: From 7:00pm onwards (last entry 9:45pm Sundayโ€“Thursday, 10:15pm Fridayโ€“Saturday).

Tickets must be booked online in advance:

  • Adults: $17.50
  • Children (3โ€“15 years): $12.50
  • Family: $49
  • Infants 2 and under: Free (ticket still required)

Getting There

  • Public transport: Joondalup Train Station is just a short walk from Central Park.
  • Parking: Limited event parking and accessible bays are available. On-street parking fills quickly, so carpooling or arriving early is recommended.
  • Kiss & Drop Zone: A convenient Kiss & Drop Zone is located right by the entrance on Grand Boulevard, ideal for families being dropped off with prams, younger children or grandparents.

Final Thoughts

Bloom: Luna Light Journey is a breathtaking family experience that combines wonder, creativity and storytelling in a way that captivates all ages. For children of all ages, the lights, sounds and interactive moments are unforgettable. For parents and caregivers, itโ€™s a joy to watch them completely immersed in such a magical atmosphere.

If youโ€™re looking for a unique evening activity this spring, Bloom is absolutely worth a visit.
