Blacksmith Perth is a super popular spot on the Beaufort Street strip in Highgate, offering that cool industrial warehouse vibe while still being genuinely family-friendly. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 7am to 3pm, itโs a great choice for breakfast, brunch or lunch with kids in tow.

Inside, the cafรฉ hums with activity โ thereโs plenty of exposed brick, timber and metal finishes, and a serious focus on good coffee. The beans are roasted by Tobyโs Estate and the team clearly take pride in their brews, from silky flat whites to strong long blacks.

If your little one loves to copy the grown-ups, they can enjoy a babycino complete with a marshmallow treat.

Out the back is where youโll find the kidsโ area, with a playroom, sandpit and lots of toys. In the playroom, there are mini tables and chairs, blackboard walls, toys and a play kitchen. The sandpit provides a lot of entertainment too, with sand toys and stepping stones. The outside area is also covered and can get quite noisy with people chatting and kids playing.

There is a handy pool fence and gate around the sandpit, which helps keep little ones contained while they play. Itโs still worth keeping a close eye on toddlers though, as enthusiastic escapees can sneak out when other families open the gate. Overall, the whole back area feels relaxed and casual โ perfect for catching up with friends while the kids are busy.

Blacksmithโs menu is all about creative, modern brunch with plenty of choice for families. Adults can tuck into favourites like guacamole smashed avo on sourdough, lemon curd pancakes with berry compote, chilli scrambled eggs, a big Blacksmithโs Breakfast, or more substantial options such as the fried chicken โMother Cluckerโ burger, Korean fried chicken on buttermilk pancakes, Brisket Benny on rosti, Mee Goreng, veggie fritter benny and a vibrant vegan bowl. There are also weekly specials and banh mi written up in the cafรฉ.

Kids are well catered for with their own menu, including scrambled egg on toast, nuggets and chips, fish and chips with battered flathead, and a kids pancake with maple syrup or Nutella, with the option to add ice cream. Paired with the play area, it makes eating out with little ones much easier.

Drinks are a real highlight, with a full espresso menu plus filter options like cold brew and batch brew, rotating Single-O specials and fun house drinks such as flavoured matcha and a Mont Blanc cold brew. Thereโs also loose leaf tea, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, milkshakes, โdirtyโ shakes with espresso and a range of soft drinks and kombucha, so everyone can find something they like.
Blacksmith is well equipped for the little ones. The toilets are easily accessed by the back patio area, and there are change table facilities and plenty of high chairs. Our table alone needed several highchairs for the kids, and there was still space to move prams around without too much trouble. If youโre planning a large catch up there are a few big tables available, and Blacksmith take bookings for groups of eight or more.

Brekkie, brunch, lunch or coffee and cake โ Blacksmith is a great spot for a trendy meal with kids in tow, combining strong coffee, a tasty menu and a genuinely family-friendly set up.
