After over four years in the making, the 9 million dollar redevelopment of Shirley Strickland Reserve is complete! The dog-friendly sporting reserve is now home to a state-of-the-art Sport and Community Pavilion, a fantastic nature playground, fitness equipment and cycle/walking paths.
The main feature of the playground is the enormous wooden multilevel climbing structure with a bright lime green slide. The kids loved tackling the different climbing obstacles and racing each other across the bridge. The views of the sporting ovals are pretty good too.
On ground level, there are plenty of nature play elements, including brightly painted stepping poles, stepping stones, balancing beams and a wooden teepee.
The little ones will love the small concrete slide, speaking tubes and music/sensory play.
Shirley Strickland Reserve has three swings, one basket swing and two traditional swings.
My kids are very competitive. So when they saw the podium, they made up a series of little challenges around the playground, and of course, the winner had to stand proudly on top.
Older kids will love shooting hoops on the half-basketball court. There’s also fitness equipment near the car park and a cycle/walking path around the reserve.
Picnic facilities include picnic tables and BBQs. There is also a canteen (open most weekends), public toilets and changing facilities at the Sport and Community Pavilion. There are no shade sails, but the majority of the playground has been built under large existing trees, which offer plenty of shade.
