What a wonderful surprise the Power Up Electricity Museum in Manjimup is! We’d visited the famous Timber Playground, with giant slide, before – though not since the Manjimup Heritage Park’s amazing redevelopment. Now it’s home to this modern electricity museum, heritage hamlet, visitor centre, timber museum, café and more!
The Power Up Electricity Museum tells the story of the evolution of electricity in WA and the world. From its discovery and early generation of electricity, to the modern day and greener electricity sources for the future.
There’re many interactive displays, including people-powered activities to “power up Manjimup”, that kids will love.
It’s sure to spark imagination and give them a few light bulb moments! Kids can build their own light up model with connecting blocks.

The museum features huge old machines – some of the state’s first generating sets, plus early electric vehicles and retro electrical domestic appliances.
For younger kids there is a corner dedicated to play. Here they can don a fluro shirt and hard hat and play at being an apprentice. There are lots of buttons to press and toy tools to play with.
The museum also includes a couple of video areas, to watch short films about electricity.
The admission fee (correct at Oct 2021) is payable at the information centre and includes complimentary entry into the neighboring State Timber Museum.
