Wirin Cafe East Perth

Wirin Café is found at the entrance to The Pavillion at the historic WACA Ground in East Perth. We had a sneak peek of its menu on opening day (so please not images of food are smaller portion sizes than usually served). I was really pleasantly surprised with the delicious, and thoughtfully created dishes. I love an elevated, ‘cheffy’ brunch, and this delivered.

Named after the Noongar word for “spirit”, Wirin leans into that meaning with a space designed for slowing down rather than rushing through. The interior is full with soft light and timber, there’s plenty of shaded outside tables too.

I could imagine a regular morning here, maybe you drop by for a post-workout coffee, or brunch with the kids before hitting the Splash Park, slides and pools

Coffee is by Karvan, one of my favourite local roasts. The menu is built around fresh, seasonal West Aussie produce; think simple dishes done thoughtfully and plated with flair. A few dishes we enjoyed:

  • Avo bruschetta on hash brown.
  • Eggs Royale, Geralton Wax cured salmon with poached eggs, and a pepperberry hollandaise (with a real kick!).
  • The Wirin Croffle (croissant waffle) with Korean fried chicken, maple syrup, fried salt bush and a cashew crumb.

Expect colourful plates that change with the seasons, plenty of flavours that nod to the best of WA.

I would have loved to see the menu marked with “GF” and other dietaries, for peace of mind when ordering. I didn’t see a kid’s menu, but there would be lots of pastries and cabinet eats that would suit kids, if there isn’t one. Highchairs are available too.

What sets Wirin apart from the city’s sea of brunch spots is its strong sense of place. The café is literally embedded in one of Perth’s most storied sporting grounds, with its heart firmly in culture and connection. It’s an easy meeting point before exploring the Lotterywest Karda Play Space with kids (opening very soon), a refuelling detour on a riverside ride, or somewhere to grab lunch before watching a bit of Sheffield Shield cricket.

There are paid street parking spots and the Queens Garden carpark nearby. Wirin is a central cafe that’s well worth checking out.
