There’s a NEW distillery in (Cow) town! Award winning Australian spirit company, West Winds, has opened up a venue in Cowaramup. The impressive West Winds Distillery and Tavern is right on Bussell Highway, as you head south out of town, you can’t miss it. The lofty space holds a big bar, and plenty of tables to dine at, including an upstairs space.
The West Winds spirits are showcased here with their classic and innovative cocktails. There are options for beer and wine drinkers too. It would be rude not to have a cheeky G+T though… This pinque and strawberry was so refreshing on a hot summers day.
The Distillery and Tavern looks onto a fenced courtyard, which is handy for families and they allow dogs here too. In one corner of the courtyard, there is a boat and a garden game (giant Jenga). This wood-chipped area is a playground, but it is a little sparse and not covered by shade, so be sure to slip, slop, slap.
There’s a cellar door for tastings and sales too. They also hold gin masterclasses here.
We shared a fromge and charcuterie platter, which was brimming with fresh local produce, was very tasty. While I didn’t spot a dedicated kids menu, most kids would be happy to graze on a share platter, plus there’s bowls of chips etc. It’s a very new venue, so that kind of thing could be in the works.
The West Winds Distillery and Tavern has a good feel and live music on the weekends. If you love gin and good times, grab your shipmates and set your course to West Winds Distillery and Tavern in Cowaramup.
