Gingin Outdoor Activity Space is a fantastic family-friendly destination in the heart of this small, historic township, offering a huge variety of play opportunities for children of all ages. Set in a picturesque, country-town setting, the Playground combines nature play, active play and community facilities, making it well worth the drive from Perth for a day out.
The centrepiece of the space is the impressive Gingin Tower, a nature-inspired climbing structure that immediately catches the eye. Kids can climb up using rope ladders and bridges before choosing from two different slides to zoom back down.

Surrounding the main tower are natural play elements such as timber stepping stumps and balancing logs, which encourage kids to explore, balance and jump in a more organic, unstructured way. A lovely standout feature is the wind-powered upturned tree โwindmillโ, created from a tree sourced from a local farmerโs property โ itโs a great talking point and adds a unique, local touch to the park.

Swing lovers are very well catered for here, with something for everyone. There are two standard swings for older children, a toddler bucket swing for little ones, and a birds nest swing that is perfect for siblings or friends to share, or for children who need a little extra support from an adult.

For something more thrilling, thereโs also a large 360-degree pendulum swing that older kids will gravitate toward, offering a real sense of speed and exhilaration.

Toddlers and preschoolers have their own thoughtfully designed area, which makes the space especially appealing for families with mixed ages. This junior zone features a sweet little cubbyhouse complete with a shop-style window, arched doorway and various cut-outs to peek and play through. Itโs ideal for imaginative games such as โplaying cafesโ or โshopsโ.

Nearby, a low rock hill incorporates a concrete tunnel and a small embanked slide, giving younger children a safe but exciting way to climb and slide without having to tackle the big tower.

Active kids arenโt forgotten either, with a dedicated scooter and riding area. A small scooter track loops around part of the space, offering a manageable circuit for beginners who are still gaining confidence on their wheels.

Just next door, bigger kids and teens will be drawn to the skate park zone, which includes a variety of ramps, rails and a bowl suitable for skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes. This creates a great hub for older children and means families with kids across a broad age range can all find something to enjoy.

Adding even more appeal for older children and tweens is the colourful half basketball court. This vibrant court is popular for casual games of basketball or just shooting hoops with friends and siblings. Combined with the skate park and pendulum swing, it helps ensure that this is a space families can continue to enjoy as their children grow.

The overall design of Gingin Outdoor Activity Space reflects a strong sense of community and connection to place. The project came to life through local fundraising, sponsorships and grants, and this pride shows in the details. Earthy tones, natural materials and the retention of mature trees all help the Playground blend beautifully into Ginginโs historic streetscape, rather than feeling like a generic suburban park.
Practical facilities have been well considered. There is plenty of natural shade from established trees along with additional shade sails, making the space more comfortable on sunny days. Families will appreciate the presence of public toilets close by, as well as picnic shelters and barbecues that make it easy to enjoy a relaxed morning or afternoon.

Another huge bonus is that the CU@Park Cafรฉ is located right next door, perfect for grabbing a coffee, ice cream, drink or snack before or after a play, or even ordering lunch and enjoying it at the park.

Gingin itself is around an hourโs drive from the Perth CBD, which makes Gingin Outdoor Activity Space a great choice for a weekend drive or school holiday adventure. While youโre in town, itโs well worth exploring more of the local area. The Gingin Walkabout Trail is a lovely way to learn about the townโs rich history, with heritage buildings and interpretive signs along the way. Kids may also enjoy visiting the Gingin Waterwheel, a working replica inspired by the wheel that once powered the Chesiton Flour Mill. Combined with the Playground, these extra stops turn a simple Playground visit into a full day out discovering a charming country town.

With its blend of nature play, active spaces, facilities for all ages and a friendly community atmosphere, Gingin Outdoor Activity Space is a must-visit regional Playground for Perth families looking for a change of scene beyond the suburbs.
