Mandurah’s Eastern Foreshore has had a massive glow-up, and the Mandurah Eastern Foreshore Reserve Playground makes the most of that waterfront transformation. Sitting right on Mandurah Terrace, this fully fenced, partly shaded Playground is a brilliant all-abilities space where kids can burn energy while adults soak up those estuary views, grab a coffee, or wander the foreshore.

The Playground has a strong nautical theme that celebrates Mandurah’s coastal and crabbing heritage. Little details like crab scoops, fishing lures and buoys are woven into the design, and families will be happy to see the much-loved yellow boat from the old Playground has been given pride of place in its new home.

The standout feature is the towering nautical-themed play structure with a big slide, giving older kids more of a challenge and amazing vantage points over the foreshore.

For younger children, there’s a smaller slide that’s just right for little legs and less confident climbers.

Accessibility and inclusion have clearly been a big focus in the Eastern Foreshore renewal works, and this Playground reflects that. The Sway Fun Glider and open-entry carousel are designed so that children of all abilities can join in the fun, and the flat, fenced layout helps make the space feel safe and easy to navigate with prams, wheelchairs and toddlers.

Swings are always a favourite, and here you’re spoiled for choice – there are traditional swings, a parent/toddler face-to-face swing, a bird’s nest swing and a toddler/baby swing, so siblings can all swing together.

The classic roundabout is another huge hit and guaranteed to leave kids giggling and a little wobbly on their feet.

For little climbers, the colourful rope obstacle course is a major drawcard and offers a great way to build confidence, balance and coordination.

The sand play area is another highlight, especially for kids who love hands-on, sensory play. With woodchips and sand side by side, plus a pulley system, chute and tube for moving sand around, it easily becomes a long-session kind of spot as children dig, scoop, pour and construct. Parents should be prepared for sandy clothes and very content kids!

The whole Playground is packed with imaginative play opportunities. Kids can send secret messages through speaking tubes, steer their own ship with the boat wheel, scan the horizon through telescopes, bounce on a shark/dolphin rocker, and cross rope bridges on their way to new adventures. It’s an environment that really encourages storytelling and role play – whether they’re captaining a fishing boat, spotting dolphins, or defending a pirate ship, there’s plenty to keep their imaginations firing.

Inside the fully fenced Playground you’ll also find plenty of family-friendly amenities. There are shaded picnic shelters, barbecues, a drinking fountain and several seating options dotted around, so it’s easy to settle in for a morning or afternoon without needing to leave the play area. The shade sails over parts of the Playground are a welcome addition on hot days, and the surrounding Eastern Foreshore upgrade has added more trees and shaded areas along the water’s edge for comfort in summer.

Step outside the Playground and the wider Eastern Foreshore precinct really completes the day out. The City of Mandurah’s Waterfront Project has delivered more open green space for picnics, wider accessible pathways, upgraded lighting, new alfresco zones outside local cafés, and improved public toilets and Changing Places facilities nearby, all designed to create safe, inclusive spaces to “meet, play and rest” along the water. Just a short stroll away is the stunning Kwillena Gabi Pool – an enclosed, circular estuary pool with an accessible ramp, floating pontoons and terraced seating, perfect for a splash before or after the Playground.

With its beautiful waterfront location, inclusive design, strong nautical theming and close proximity to cafés, open grassed areas and the Kwillena Gabi Pool, Mandurah Eastern Foreshore Reserve Playground easily earns its place as a must-visit family destination. Whether you’re a local popping down for a play and a coffee, or visiting Mandurah for the day, this revitalised foreshore Playground makes it very easy to linger longer.
