The Garratt Road Bridge or AP Hinds Reserve is a quiet playground and picnic spot under the bridge on the river in Bayswater. It is just down from the popular Riverside Gardens. We walked down there after a coffee at the coffee van at Riverside Gardens. The kids rode their scooters along the pathways, stopping at the exercise equipment spots along the way for a quick play. Rutter Park is a leafy, family-friendly Playground tucked into the heart of Wembley, offering a great mix of traditional play equipment, nature play and open green space. Russell Square Playground features a free-standing birds-nest swing, two slides of different sizes, monkey bars, a balancing bridge, and a climbing. There is plenty to climb and bridges to run across,… as well as some grassed area next to the playground. The base is rubbery soft fall decorated with cute ladybugs. The playground isn’t fully fenced but it’s fenced enough to keep kids away from the busy Northbridge Streets. Based on the equipment, this playground would probably best suit toddlers and onwards. Brown Park is a grassy park with shady trees and a playground covered by shade sails set among the leafy streets of Mosman Park. It’s a spot that’s sure to have something to appeal to everyone. Just off of Main Street in Balcatta is Conway Reserve, a bright, colourful playground surrounded by a grassy park. Conway Reserve is partially fenced with a path running from Harrison Street to Archibald Street, and a large grassed area for ball games or exercising the dog. Nestled in the heart of Dianella is the lovely Wake Pola Reserve. This parkland has a good sized playground with shade sails and natural shading. The playground features a large play structure with two slides, a noughts and crosses game, shop front, fireman pole and flying fox. In the heart of Beldon is Haddington Park Public Playground. It’s a mix of traditional play equipment and nature play. It’s a real gem with something for everyone. The main play structure in the playground is surrounded with soft white sand, and features a slide, a fireman pole, a steering wheel, climbing ropes, monkey bars and ladders. Just down the road from Waldecks Stirling is a neat little playground on a leafy street, is Candella Square Playground. This is a well maintained small playground. The main playground structure includes a twisty slide, a curved flying fox, a wooden climbing wall, a climbing pole as well as the usual steps and ladders. Miss 2.5 found a steering wheel and a telescope near the top for imaginative play. There is a climbing tube with a metal ladder and handle holds inside that I don’t think I’ve come across before. Les Lilleyman Reserve, North Perth   Les Lilleyman Reserve in North Perth features a fenced playground surrounded by shady trees. Sandow Park is a little gem of a park is hidden away in Clarkson. It’s located on the corner of Marmion Ave and Hester Ave but you wouldn’t know it from within the park itself. It’s set downhill and behind trees hiding most of the traffic and ensuring that children and pets can’t dash onto busy roads. It’s a small local park, with no barbecues, shelters or toilets but it’s got some of our favourite play equipment. Tucked away in a quiet street in Queens Park is Serisier Parkway playground. It is a fully fenced playground with two gate entries. It is quite well shaded naturally with palm trees in the park and tall trees surrounding. The play equipment has a small climbing wall, slide and a couple of rope climbing activities. Tucked away on Lenihan Corner just off Hale Road, Wattle Grove Nature Playscape is one of those “pocket” parks that feels like a little bush escape dropped into suburbia. It’s not a huge destination Playground, but it’s a beautifully calm spot for families who like nature-based play, with plenty to explore beyond the standard plastic-and-metal set-up. Garvey Park is a great local park just at the end of Fauntleroy Avenue on the river’s edge in Ascot. The kids love the playground as it has something to suit both my sensible 5 year old and my adventurous almost 3 year old! The play equipment is all on sand with a large sail shade over most of the equipment which is great in the warmer months. Banksia Grove Nature Playground is a small nature-based playground located between Dragonfly Road and Potoroo Street on the Eastern Side of Banksia Grove. The wooden play equipment is perfect for helping children with balance, coordination and confidence. The equipment features balance posts with rope, twisted net, shaky bridge, balancing beam and a little wooden table with posts for chairs. Located on Pulchella Ramble is a perfect toddler friendly playground. It is fully fenced, which is perfect to stop the little ones escaping. There is a variety of play equipment for the little ones to crawl/walk over, rock on, slide down, swing on etc. As a mum of a 10 month old, my highlight was the bucket swing! In the heart of Glen Forrest you’ll find an absolute hidden gem of a playground at Morgan John Morgan Reserve.  The leafy spot in the Perth Hills is known locally as “The Train Park”. It’s made up of a large sandpit area with a play frame, but what really makes it unique is its life size replica train! Little train fanatics that love Thomas or Chuggington will love some imaginative play on the locomotive, which also features two carriages. Just off of Beach Road in Girrawheen, we discovered Tendring Park, a neat little park with a life sized snakes and ladders game. The main play structure in the playground features a twisty slide, a climbing wall, a rope climbing web, a fireman pole, some balancing platforms, monkey bars, and a little steering wheel at the top for imagination play. Tucked just a short stroll from busy Westfield Innaloo, Millet Park – affectionately known as “Spider-Man Park” – is a leafy local favourite with plenty to keep active kids busy. Beecroft Park is found opposite Empire Village Shopping Centre in City Beach and is popular with local families. The playground is sand fall based and naturally shaded by mature trees, as well as shade sails. The sand is littered with a lot of leaf and sticks, so little ones may prefer to keep their shoes on. Kalamunda’s Stirk Park was a favourite of mine, back in the 80s when I was growing up in the Perth Hills. The park has long been a popular location for mothers group get-togethers and family picnics. The snazzy playground and skate park at Stirk Park has been redevelopmented in the past couple of years. The adventure playground and skatepark are a huge hit with hills families. Covering the old playground footprint and more, the updated playground has more than tripled in size! In amongst all the shiny office buildings in West Perth is Totterdell Park. The leafy inner city park is made up of a  soft fall play area with a large metal  play frame that features two slides, “shop” window, climbing  nets, ramps, monkey bars, a  climbing wall and more.  There is also a see-saw and fun nest swing too. Pine Park is a hidden gem in Darlington, in the Perth Hills. I grew up in the hills and my parents still live there. On today’s visit we thought we’d try somewhere different to the usual park. I’m glad we did, it was a very pleasant morning and more importantly little Miss had a great time. It is a small playground with a castle theme. Just 5 minutes drive from Garden City Shopping Centre, atop Wireless Hill, is a beautiful is Wireless Hill Nature Playspace. We arrived in the middle of the day, and amazingly the play area is naturally shaded by the surrounding trees, even at noon. Stretton Way Reserve, situated behind Kenwick Village and is one of the shadiest parks I have seen. Shade sails cover the climbing equipment as well as the BBQ area making it good for summer outings. The play equipment has an excellent variety of play equipment including three slides, monkey bars, balancing equipment, various levels of climbing structures, and a basketball hoop. Nestled in a leafy corner by Lake Claremont is a lovely naturally shaded playground. Lake Claremont Playground is a good mix of nature play and traditional playground equipment. The playground base is sand surrounded by grass and wood chips. There are no shade sails, but most of the equipment is naturally shaded by the large surrounding trees. There are stepping stones, logs and ropes to climb on, some with wooden platforms or balancing logs connecting different parts of the playground. Broadview park is set around a small lake, with a path running all the way around it. It’s a lovely spot and perfect for a stroll or ride around the lake and a play. Over the water is a gorgeous little gazebo with seats inside. This is the perfect spot to look for ducks and koi. The gazebo is safely fenced, with no risk of children slipping into the water.
