If you’re cruising through Margaret River town with hungry kids and adults, Normal Van is a tasty option. Found on the main street, in the heart of town, it’s tasty, casual, and perfect for those “let’s get something yummy and easy” moments, without compromising on flavour.
From the first glance, Normal Van keeps it simple: come as you are, order, eat well, then move on happily to browse the gift shops (or hang around a bit longer). The vibe here is laid-back, which works brilliantly for families.
This spot may seem familiar, it was once Burger Baby, which is now south of town, next to Yahava Coffee. There’s inside and outside dining under the vines – because when in Margaret River, why not?
Originally a popular food truck (hence the name), the tight menu hits that classic comfort food sweet spot. Normal Chips are uniquely seasoned, share them, or not, cos they are seriously good. The J-man opted for the chzburger loaded chips, rather than a kid’s meal, and he loved them.
The Bacon Cheeseburger is straightforward and satisfying with beef, yellow cheese, pickles, salad, special sauce, and robs brioche. Most of the burgers components are made in-house and you can taste the quality.
If you want something different, there’s a Typical Chicken Burger and a Buffalo Chicken Burger with more kick. For vegetarians, the Portabello Burger is a solid option that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. The Normal Caesar Salad offers a fresher pick alongside the burgers. I was tempted, but opted for the GF bacon cheeseburger, which was delicious and the bun was better than your average – IYNYN.
Kids are covered, with a dedicated Normal Van Kids Cheeseburger with beef, cheese, ketchup, and onions on a brioche bun, plus an “adult it” option if you want to level it up with pickles and mustard. The girls both chose chips, which were generous serves and they could have shared one. For dessert, there’s a softserve sundae, that’s if you even have the tummy space. If you’re making it a holiday lunch or early evening bite, Normal Van also has a solid drinks list with cocktails like margaritas and an old fashioned for the grown-ups, plus beer and wine. For non-alcoholic “PG” options, there are nostalgic-style cans like root beer, cream soda, and cherry coke.
If you want an easy lunch or dinner in central Margs, grab a few burgs and finish with the cheesecake ice cream cup to keep the peace. Normal Van offers a “Text your order” take away option, which is super useful if you’re trying to reduce waiting time with kids in tow. Normal Van is exactly the kind of spot that makes a family day out in Margaret River feel effortless and genuinely delicious.
