Ippudo is a long-established Japanese chain restaurant famous for its Hakata-styled (better known as Tonkotsu) ramen that has won multiple awards internationally. Founded in Fukuoka city in 1985, it now has many branches worldwide, including 2 store locations here in Perth (Kings Square and Westfield Carousel). So, whether you are a ramen enthusiast or a first-timer, Ippudo is sure to deliver delicious authentic Japanese food with great Japanese hospitality and a memorable dining experience for the whole family.
Now that the weather is cooling down and the craving for some hearty soupy goodness hits, we visited Ippudo restaurant at Westfield Carousel, conveniently located on Level 2 of their rooftop dining, for a quick ramen fix.
The warm, inviting atmosphere with a modern Japanese minimalist aesthetic makes dining here a pleasure. An open kitchen concept where you can see all the actions of the chefs with the boiling soups and steam behind the screen.
Ippudo’s menu features a variety of ramen selection that offers traditional favourites and their innovative creations. Ramen noodles here are cooked to your specified “hardness” (or al dente). Plant-based noodle soup is available, and it’s best to check any dietary requirement with their staff when ordering.
Missy 10 ordered their most popular item – Shiromaru Motoaji ramen. The original tonkotsu broth had the classic signature milky colour of tonkotsu and came with thin, straight noodles and pork loin chashu. You can’t fault the umami flavour with every slurp of that smooth richness broth that leaves your lips glistening!
The Bonito Tonkotsu has its broth blended with bonito dashi, which makes it slightly saltier. All the ramen came with their flavoured eggs, which were cooked to perfection! The soft-boiled egg yolks were jammy, custardy, and flavourful!
Ippudo’s menu caters not only to ramen but also a small selection of sushi, salads, side dishes and rice bowls. They also do seasonal store-limited ramen, which varies from location.
Their bite-sized Gyoza dumplings are perfect for starters; they taste juicy and crispy on one side.
Looking for something different? The Grilled Unagi (eel) Don was deliciously coated with their yummy Teriyaki sauce- perfect with rice!
The Kid’s menu is priced at $15 with only one choice selection. It comes with karaage chicken, rice, edamame, hot fries, jelly cup and a fruit juice of their choice.
This is Missy 7 favourite kids’ menu as their karaage chicken is so juicy and flavourful (probably one of the best karaage) and portion size is perfect for her!
Indoor and outdoor seating is available at the Ippudo Carousel, with baby chairs provided. Toilets are found outside the restaurant. Free 2 hours of parking is available at Westfield carpark.
The rooftop dining play area is located just outside their outdoor seating area, which is perfect for family dining! The outdoor play area includes a popsicle stick house, boat playset, hillside slide playground with tunnel and steps.
