Colour Block Park, affectionately known as โThe LEGO Parkโ, is a compact but seriously eye-catching neighbourhood Playground tucked into the coastal suburb of Golden Bay. The bright, block-inspired design gives it instant wow factor, and it makes a great stop-off if youโre exploring the southern beaches or visiting nearby Shipwreck Cove and other Golden Bay parks.

The hero of the Playground is the colourful climbing structure built to look like giant building blocks. Kids can scramble up the โbricksโ to reach a central platform, then choose between crossing a rope bridge or taking the ladder up to the enclosed tunnel slide. The slide is surprisingly steep and fast, making it especially thrilling for confident preschoolers and primary-aged children, while still feeling contained and safe for carers watching from below.

Beneath the main structure is a cool, shaded tunnel that offers a quieter kind of play. Here youโll find simple puzzle and 4-in-a-row style games built into the walls, perfect for kids who like to slow down, think and play side by side with siblings or friends. Itโs a handy little nook on warmer days and a good spot for younger children who arenโt ready for the bigger climb and slide just yet.

Just beside the tower are three in-ground trampolines set into rubber soft fall. These are always a hit, letting kids bounce without the usual worry about tall frames or falls. The soft-fall surface means even tots can have a go, and the whole play area is open enough that itโs easy to keep an eye on multiple kids moving between the trampolines and the main structure.

A big part of the parkโs charm is the sand play zone. A life-sized tractor has been โsunkโ below sand level so little ones can safely climb into the cab, clamber over the wheels and act out all sorts of farmyard adventures. Around it youโll find a digger, a sand funnel and more chunky coloured blocks โ including some shaped to look like giant LEGO bricks โ which double as seats, stepping stones or platforms for imaginative play. Itโs a lovely space for toddlers to potter while older siblings tackle the bigger equipment.

Adults havenโt been forgotten either. The park includes a compact outdoor fitness unit with elements like chin-up and pull-up bars and plyo-style platforms, designed by ParkFit as part of the wider landscaping of the reserve, so parents and older teens can squeeze in a bit of movement while younger children play nearby.
Surrounding the Playground is a generous grassed area thatโs ideal for a kick of the footy or a game of tag. A looping path circles the grass and play zone, perfect for little bike riders, scooters and prams, or for parents sneaking in a walk while the kids entertain themselves.

Overlooking the lawn is a timber decked platform originally designed as a yoga space, which now serves as a peaceful spot to stretch, sit and watch the action, or roll out a picnic rug.

For practicality, Colour Block Park is well set up in some ways and minimal in others. Shade sails cover the main play area, and there are plenty of benches dotted around, giving carers comfortable vantage points. A drinking fountain is available, but there are still no toilets or BBQs at the park, so itโs worth planning a short visit or pairing your play there with a stop at another nearby facility that does offer amenities. As with many modern local parks, itโs unfenced but set back within the residential streets, and the compact layout makes it easy to supervise children.

Overall, Colour Block Park is a fun, modern neighbourhood Playground with a unique LEGO-inspired twist. Itโs best suited to toddlers through to early primary school kids who will love the bright colours, fast slide, trampolines and sand play, and itโs an easy โregular favouriteโ for local families looking for a quick, low-stress play session close to home.

Small but quiet and easy to keep an eye on the little ones… shame with no toilets but I’d still make it a regular go to. Just don’t sit on the grass during the day for the sprinklers will come on
