Bloom is back in Joondalup for 2026, and this year it’s bigger, brighter and bringing a whole new immersive adventure for Perth families. After welcoming thousands of visitors in 2025, Bloom returns with Living Connections, a spectacular after-dark experience that invites families to explore the natural world through light, sound, storytelling and interactive installations.
At the heart of this years’ experience is a story about the natural worlds of Sky, Water, Land and Underground. Guided by four Australian animal guardians, you’ll embark on a journey through glowing forests, shimmering waterways and hidden landscapes, discovering the connections that help keep our natural world alive.
There’s also a strong connection to Country throughout the experience, with Indigenous culture playing an inspiring role in guiding the narrative and helping tell the story of our relationship with the land and natural environment. It adds another layer of meaning to what is already a visually spectacular experience, encouraging families to not only enjoy the lights but think about the world around them.
For little explorers, there’s plenty to capture their attention along the way. Expect towering holographic wildlife, spectacular light displays, immersive projections and interactive experiences that bring the environment to life. From water projections to vibrant forests bursting with colour, every turn offers something new to discover, making it an adventure that’s just as much about exploring as it is about watching.
There are also plenty of interactive elements throughout the trail. One of the fun activities for kids involves shining spotlights overlooking the lake, where they can search for animal posters hidden around the surrounding area. It’s these interactive touches that help keep children engaged as they make their way through the experience rather than simply walking from one light display to the next.
One of the highlights for us was the giant illuminated moon hovering above the water.
It’s an incredible sight and a fantastic photo opportunity, particularly if you’re looking to capture a special family memory.
We also loved the spinning lanterns, which create a dazzling display of light around the nearby trees and add another layer of magic to the experience.
Allow around 45 to 90 minutes to walk the trail and take in the lights, depending on how quickly your family moves through the experience and how much time the kids spend stopping to explore the interactive elements. With plenty to see along the way, there’s no need to rush, and taking your time is part of the fun.
And it’s not just the big displays that make Bloom special. The entire trail is designed to immerse you in a world of light, colour and sound, with plenty of little details for curious kids to discover. At the end of the walk, there’s also a bubble and light machine that little ones will love chasing, making for a fun finish to the adventure.
Bloom is an event that genuinely caters for all ages. Older children will enjoy the interactive installations and exploring the different environments, while even babies can be captivated by the changing colours, glowing lights and movement. It’s a lovely family outing, but equally suited to a date night or a relaxed evening exploring something a little different together.
For families familiar with Central Park, it’s worth remembering that the park features plenty of water, including a central lake and smaller streams that wind through the grounds. While these waterways add to the beautiful setting, parents should keep a close eye on children throughout the experience and always supervise them to ensure they’re safe, particularly around the water.
The good news for families with prams, wheelchairs or mobility needs is that accessibility has been well considered. The trail follows a combination of sealed and grassed paths, with some gentle slopes, making it wheelchair and pram friendly. It’s a relatively easy way to enjoy an evening outdoors while taking in the spectacular displays at your own pace.
Located right in the heart of Joondalup, Bloom is also an easy event to get to. Central Park is at Boas Avenue, Joondalup, just a short, signed walk from Joondalup Train Station, making public transport a convenient option, particularly on busy nights. There is limited general and accessible parking nearby, so catching the train is strongly recommended where possible.
As the entire experience takes place outdoors, it’s worth dressing for a spring evening. Bring a light jacket for the kids and be prepared for changing weather. Bloom operates in light rain, although extreme weather may affect sessions, so it’s a good idea to check the event’s social media pages for updates before heading out.
There are toilets onsite, although you’ll find them towards the end of the trail, near the area where food trucks are often available during peak-period nights, weather permitting. It’s worth keeping this in mind if you’re visiting with little ones who might need a bathroom break before you begin your walk.
If you’re heading to Joondalup with the kids, it’s also worth popping into Lakeside Joondalup for a free preview of Bloom: Living Connections. Running from 23 September to 11 October, the indoor experience is located on the ground floor opposite Myer and features interactive projections, original music and a chance for little ones to decorate their own bloom to take home. Open 10am–2pm Monday to Saturday and 11am–3pm on Sundays and public holidays, it’s a lovely little bonus to enjoy before or after your visit to Central Park.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning after experiencing Bloom in 2025, Living Connections offers a completely new adventure filled with glowing landscapes, incredible light displays and opportunities to explore together.
