Lake Leschenaultia Camp Site is about an hour drive from Perth CBD making this a fabulous location for a relaxed weekend away with the family.
The main features of the campground include the vast lake, ideal for swimming, and canoeing as well as a walking/cycle track and some off-road MTB trails suitable for both kids and adults. You can hire canoes from the lakeside, but you’ll need to take your own bikes.
The campsite itself offers fantastic views of Lake Leschenaultia. Surrounded by a forest, numerous picnic tables around the lake (ideal for parties and picnics), showers, toilets, BBQs and open fire pits (check the website for details on usage at specific times of the year and day). The main camp kitchen is brightly lit at night and offers two picnic tables, BBQs, a microwave, toaster, kettle, sink and fridge with a fridge freezer compartment.
The tent and campervan pitches are a good size and edge onto the forest. The camper van sites include a fire pit and picnic table. There are electricity lines for each site, but no water taps so make sure you fill up your tanks and water bottles before you leave. There is drinking water available just not directly to your site.
There’s plenty of shade on each pitch, and the kids spent virtually all their time in the bush playing with sticks and making dens.
We took the kids bikes and headed out for a ride around the lake which is approximately 3km, so a good distance for our 5-7-year-olds. The ride is a combination of concrete and rough sand with a few small hills along the way to challenge their little legs. There is also a 6km MTB ride which the adults did, and it was pretty tough going, but perhaps we were going too fast!?
There is plenty to do and see along the path around the lake. We came across large tunnels under the pathway, old train stations and fallen down trees.
The big draw for us happy campers was the vast open spaces in this campground and of course the open fires! We enjoyed two beautiful evenings under a sky full of stars sitting by the flickering fire.
The kids enjoyed toasted marshmallows two nights on the trot too!
