If you have a toddler or preschooler who loves to dance (or even just wiggle to music in the living room), Kindy Dance Time is a magical introduction to the world of dance. Established in 2001, itโ€™s Australiaโ€™s longest running and most acclaimed preschool dance program, designed especially for children aged 2โ€“5 years.

With an enchanting, research-based syllabus and experienced teachers who truly care about little ones, Kindy Dance Time has welcomed over 45,000 children nationwide into its fun-filled classes. And after experiencing it firsthand, we can see why so many families keep coming back term after term.

Our Experience

Kai, my two-year-old, has just completed his first term in the Kindy A class โ€“ and weโ€™ll definitely be back for next term!

From the very first class, he was made to feel so welcome. There were no nerves, just big smiles as he was greeted warmly by his teacher, Miss Brooke. Each lesson was filled with laughter, music and movement, and it quickly became one of the highlights of his week.

What stood out to me most was how thoughtfully the classes are structured. While the routine remains familiar each week (perfect for little learners), the themes change throughout the term, keeping the children engaged and sparking their imaginations. This term Kai explored themes like On the Farm, Springtime and In the Bush.

During Springtime, we explored high and low concepts, jumping like frogs and curling like caterpillars. In the Bush, children (and their grown-ups) ran like emus, flew like baby kookaburras and even joined in a bush dance with partners.

It was more than just fun โ€“ it was obvious that the program is built on early childhood education principles. The classes encourage active participation, observation, imitation and most importantly, nurturing relationships. For adults, itโ€™s a beautiful opportunity to connect with your child, laugh and dance together, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Kai has already made little friendships with his fellow dancers and Iโ€™ve loved seeing his confidence blossom each week.

The Kindy Dance Time Program

Kindy Dance Time isnโ€™t about perfect ballet positions or strict technique. Instead, itโ€™s about giving young children an enriching early childhood experience that blends dance, imagination and play.

Every class is carefully crafted around a 9-lesson syllabus for each age group, with themes that rotate across the term. Children soak up essential dance concepts like rhythm, sequencing and spatial awareness while exploring movement in creative, age-appropriate ways.

Props, instruments, group and solo dancing, and plenty of imaginative play are woven into each lesson. The result is a joyful, inclusive environment where little ones feel safe to explore and express themselves. We saw this firsthand when Kai eagerly embraced his solo dances around the room as a gorilla any chance he got โ€“ spontaneous moments of joy outside of the set theme, but so perfectly encouraged by the nurturing environment.

Class Options

Kindy A โ€“ For 2 to 3 ยฝ Year Olds

The Kindy A class is a gentle introduction to dance for the youngest movers. Parents and carers join in, helping little ones feel secure as they explore their first structured class environment. Teachers guide children through nurturing instruction and are encouraged to participate at their own pace โ€“ some take a few weeks to settle, which is perfectly normal. The teachers not only understand this, they anticipate it. After the very first class, families even receive a handout reassuring parents about this settling – in process and offering tips for supporting their child. Itโ€™s such a thoughtful touch that immediately makes you feel at ease.

Length: 30 minutes

Cost: $175 per term (including enrolment fee, insurance and GST)

Kindy B โ€“ For 3 ยฝ to 5 Year Olds

The Kindy B class is the next step, designed for older preschoolers ready to dance independently. Parents watch from the side while children immerse themselves in a completely new syllabus, with engaging themes that extend imagination and creativity. Lessons focus on independence, social skills and deeper exploration of dance foundations โ€“ all while keeping the fun at the heart of every class.

Length: 40 minutes

About Kindy Dance Time

Kindy Dance Time was created by Lara Gandini in 2001, inspired by her years of experience in ballet and her work alongside her mother, Terri Charlesworth OAM. Today, with 21 locations across Perth, the program continues to reflect Laraโ€™s philosophy: to nurture a love of dance in young children without pressure, competition or stress.

Teachers like Miss Brooke bring this philosophy to life in every class, balancing professional expertise with genuine warmth and enthusiasm.

Final Thoughts

For families with toddlers and preschoolers, Kindy Dance Time offers so much more than a weekly activity. Itโ€™s a place where children can move, laugh, learn and connect โ€“ while their parents share in the joy of watching their little ones grow in confidence and creativity.

For us, it has been a magical start to Kaiโ€™s dance journey. Weโ€™ve seen smiles, friendships and a blossoming love of movement. If youโ€™re looking for a nurturing, fun and imaginative introduction to dance, Kindy Dance Time is truly something special.
