Tucked away in the Mussel Pool East precinct, Whiteman Park Dog Park is a brilliant offโlead spot for dogs to stretch their legs while the family enjoys a day out in one of Perthโs favourite bushland parks. This fully fenced 2.5โhectare dog exercise area sits within the wider Whiteman Park grounds, just a short distance from the Mussel Pool picnic areas and the allโabilities Piaโs Place Playground, making it very easy to combine a visit with a play or picnic nearby.

The dog park itself is divided into two grassed enclosures, both surrounded by secure fencing and accessed via doubleโgated entry points for extra safety. The main space is a large open run with plenty of room for zoomies, ball games and socialising with other dogs.

A separate, smaller enclosure has been set aside especially for dogs under 10kg, giving little or more timid pups a calmer space to play. Across both areas youโll find mature trees providing natural shade, a 500m walking path around the perimeter so owners can get some steps in, and an obstacle course built in colours dogs can see, adding a bit of fun and extra mental stimulation to their visit.

Facilities have been well thought out for both humans and hounds. There are multiple water taps and troughs within the enclosures so dogs can easily stay hydrated, plus shaded seating and benches where you can relax and keep an eye on the action.

Dog waste bins and free biodegradable โPooch Pouchesโ are provided at the entrances, and there are toilets located just outside the dog park area at Mussel Pool East. Parking is conveniently right alongside the fences at Car Park 23, so it is only a short stroll from the car to the gates, even with kids, prams and an excited dog in tow.

Whiteman Park is generally very dogโfriendly, but there are a few important rules to be aware of. Dogs must remain on a lead and under control everywhere in the park, except once you are inside the fenced dog park enclosures. Only dogs are allowed as domestic pets in the park; other animals such as cats or birds are not permitted, both for conservation and animal safety reasons. The dog park is free to use and is open daily from 8.30am to 6.00pm, with the area closed on alternate Thursdays, usually between 10.00am and 1.00pm, for lawn mowing and other maintenance. Donation points at each entrance help support ongoing upkeep of the facility and raise funds for RSPCA WA, so bringing a gold coin is a lovely way to give back.
Because it is a social, offโlead space, Whiteman Park recommends that dogs using the dog park are well socialised, have good recall and are comfortable around other dogs. The official Dog Park Rules and Etiquette, available via their website and brochure, are worth reading before your first visit so you know what to expect and how to ensure everyone has a positive experience. If your dog is reactive or very nervous, the quieter times at the beginning or end of the day, or sticking to onโlead walks around the wider park, may be a better option.
One of the big drawcards of this dog park is how easily it slots into a full family day out. Just beyond the fences youโll find expansive lawns, picnic shelters and barbecues around Mussel Pool, as well as the scenic Melaleuca Boardwalk and the Werrilyiup Trail walk, which loops around nearby Horse Swamp and is particularly beautiful when the water levels are high in winter and spring. A short walk away is Piaโs Place, Whiteman Parkโs fantastic allโabilities nature play space, so kids can enjoy a huge, inclusive Playground while the family dog gets a good offโlead run either before or after.

If you are in need of caffeine or a snack, the Mussel Pool kiosk, operated by Heritage Cafe, is located at Car Park 23 and is perfectly placed for dog park and Playground visitors. It serves coffee and light bites daily from 8.30am to 1.00pm, staying open later on weekends, and makes an easy stopโoff before you head back to the car or on to explore another part of the park. With free entry to Whiteman Park, ample parking, and so many familyโfriendly attractions close by, the dog park at Mussel Pool East is an excellent choice for a lowโcost outing that caters for both kids and canines.
Whether you plan to spend all day exploring the museums, Playgrounds and walking trails or simply pop in for a run and a picnic, Whiteman Park Dog Park offers a safe, spacious and wellโequipped environment for dogs to play offโlead. Combine it with a wander around the lakes, a visit to Piaโs Place or a coffee at the kiosk and youโll have a great excuse to return again and again.
