Tucked alongside the modern Wembley Sports Pavilion on Selby Street, this Playground offers a fun blend of nature play and traditional equipment that keeps kids moving from one activity to the next. Set back from the road with plenty of parking out the front, it’s an easy stop for families looking to let the kids burn off energy before or after sport, or as a dedicated Playground visit.

The first play area you come to from the car park is a natural-style space with balancing logs, rubbery mounds and woodchips underfoot. It’s perfect for little climbers who like to scramble, jump and explore.

A bright blue plastic shell with peepholes adds a quirky hide-and-seek element and is great for crawlers and toddlers who enjoy popping in and out and playing imaginative games.

One of the biggest drawcards here is the double flying fox. There are two parallel ziplines, including one with a seat and harness designed to support younger children or kids with mobility challenges. The soft white sand landing zone underneath provides a gentle surface for the inevitable tumbles. Preschoolers will love being able to “zip” alongside older siblings, and it’s an activity that appeals right through the primary school years.

Next to the flying fox is a double in-ground trampoline set in rubber soft-fall. This area is a real energy-burner and is popular with a wide age range. Close by, timber balance beams and stepping stones invite kids to practice their coordination as they make their way down towards the barbecue and picnic area.

A twisty race-track style path winds through the play space, ideal for bikes, scooters and skates – don’t forget helmets if you’re bringing wheels.

For younger children, there’s a small swing sized just right for toddlers and preschoolers, plus a sand play digger surrounded by soft sand.

On the opposite side is a spinning “space-age” style bowl seat that older toddlers and bigger kids will enjoy – though parents might feel dizzy just watching! The combination of sand play, movement play and quieter options makes it easy to find something to suit different moods.

Older or more adventurous kids are well catered for with several climbing challenges. A standout is the three-legged tower made up of various ladders and climbing elements, with a bell at the very top – the goal is to climb up and ring it, which adds a fun sense of achievement.

Nearby are modern monkey bars with climbing wall–style rungs on vertical poles, leading up to a red crows nest. These structures are great for building upper body strength and confidence.

At the far end of the Playground, slightly removed from the busiest equipment, is a barbecue area with two hot plates and a covered picnic table. This makes Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground a handy spot for family catch-ups, post-sport sausage sizzles or low-key birthday gatherings. Being next to the sports pavilion and ovals, there’s also plenty of open space close by for ball games or a picnic on the grass.

Some established trees do provide patches of shade over parts of the play area, and new trees have been planted that will improve coverage over time, but for now it can be quite sunny in the middle of the day. It’s worth packing hats, sunscreen and water, and possibly timing your visit for mornings or late afternoons on hot days.
Overall, Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground offers a good mix of nature play, sand play, accessible elements and more challenging climbing and movement equipment. With its handy Selby Street location between Hay Street and Salvado Road in Jolimont, generous parking and proximity to sports facilities, it’s a convenient and enjoyable Playground option for families with children of varying ages.
