Next door to the new Wembley Sports Pavilion, there is a brand new playground, just opened as of 18th January 2017. We were lucky to be some of the first people to put it to the test.
Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground combines a great mix of nature play and traditional play equipment.
As we walked across from the carpark, the first thing we came to was some climbing logs and rubbery humps surrounded by wood chips and garden. A blue plastic shell with peepholes is in this area, great for crawling through and playing hide and seek.
The main attractions for kids at this playground I think will be things like the big double zip line, which includes a seat with a harness for smaller children or those with mobility issues. There is soft white sand underneath, just in case of tumbles. Miss almost 3 thought it was amazing to be able to zip line like the big kids!
Next to this is a double in-ground trampoline surrounded by rubber soft fall matting. We did lots of bouncing.
Adjacent to this area are some balancing beams made of logs leading down to the barbecue area, and around to some stepping stones.
A twisty race track pathway winds around the all play equipment. Perfect for bikes, scooters or skates!
In another section we found a small swing just the right size for toddlers and preschoolers. Just beyond this is a digger surrounded by soft sand, and on the other side a spinning space-age looking chair. It made me dizzy to watch Miss almost 3 spinning.
Beside the trampolines, we found a big seesaw that kids can stand on or sit in the middle of. Some bigger kids were kind enough to help Miss almost 3 test this out properly.
We found lots of climbing equipment suitable for bigger kids at the front, just next to the zip line. One was a three-legged tower of different shaped ladders. At the very top is a bell. The challenge is to get up there and ring it!
There was also a new kind of monkey bars with climbing wall style rungs on poles to shimmy up, and a red crows nest on top.
At the far end, past the play equipment is a barbecue with two hot plates and a covered picnic table at one need. Perfect for family gatherings or small parties.
Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground has a bit of everything to suit kids of all ages. Miss 3 almost certainly thought it was fantastic!
There is currently not a lot of shade, relying on the already established trees to shade parts of the playground. New small trees have been strategically planted out, but will take a little while to grow. So I’d recommend packing your hats and sunscreen.
Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground is located on Selby Street, between Hay Street and Salvado Road in Jolimont. Lots of parking is available at the front.
