If you’ve got a little daredevil at home who is obsessed with anything on wheels, you’ve got to get yourself down to Varadero Park in Burns Beach. This spot is a total gem for the climbers and the riders in your tribe!

The star of the show at this small but mighty suburban spot is definitely the pump track. It’s fab for building up those riding skills; whether they are on a bike or a scooter, it’s great for watching their confidence soar as they master the loops. Because the park is new (in July 2026), it’s very popular at the moment, but the kids all seemed to navigate their way around mostly in the same direction, which helps to avoid collisions. you’ll There is seating right beside the track, so you can park yourself up and enjoy a coffee (be sure to grab a takeaway from Melt of Sistas Burns Beach nearby) while they burn off all that extra energy. Just be sure to pack the helmets – we forgot – whoops.

The playground itself has a cute little sand-based setup. You’ll find a sand digger and a couple of swings (one for the toddlers and one accessible swing). It would’ve been lovely to see a standard swing in the mix too, but the kids didn’t seem to mind much and tried to both fit on the accessible swing lol.

One thing to note is that the equipment is definitely geared toward the bigger kids. The only way to reach that big wavy slide (which has a decent amount of speed) is via the climbing frame, so the littlies might need a helping hand (or might just stick to the sand!).

It’s a nice spot for a low-key family outing. There are plenty of grassed areas for a runaround, free BBQs, and three sheltered picnic tables if you want to hang around for a while.

Now for the “faff” factor: parking is limited as it’s just street parking along the road, so it can get a bit tight on busy weekends.

Also, there are no toilets on-site. The closest ones are a short trip away at the Burns Beach foreshore, so maybe do a quick “last chance” bathroom stop before you arrive!

Varadero Park is a good spot to get confident climbers and riders outdoors and active. See you on the track!
