Pioneer Park in Gosnells is one of those parks that feels like a little โsecretโ the first time you visit. It sits close to the Canning River and, because much of the play and picnic area is tucked below street level, you can arrive nearby and still not immediately see the hub of activity. That hidden-away feeling is part of the charm, and it makes the park feel calmer and more sheltered than youโd expect so close to the town centre.

One of the standout features here is the approach. Centennial Pioneer Park has an extensive pathway network and a Tree Top Walk and Riverside Boardwalk that takes you down through the trees with views over the Playground and picnic area, this access is wheelchair friendly too. If youโve got kids on scooters, itโs the kind of entry that instantly turns โgetting to the Playgroundโ into part of the adventure.

Once youโre down at the main play space, the equipment is set up for a proper play session rather than a quick five-minute stop. Thereโs plenty for climbers and confident movers, with a big climbing area as well as classic Playground favourites like slides and swings, plus balance-style equipment to keep different ages interested. The play zones sit under tall trees, so you get valuable natural shade for much of the day, which is a real win in summer.

Itโs also a great spot to plan a picnic. There are four barbecues on site, along with seating and picnic tables, shelters, lighting, parking bays and a drinking fountain, so itโs set up for families who want to linger (and not have to pack up the moment someone gets thirsty or hungry). Public toilets are also available, which makes this park a much more realistic option for longer playdates and outings with little ones.

Beyond the Playground, the riverside setting is worth making time for. The park links along the Canning River, so itโs not just a โplay equipmentโ destinationโitโs a good place for a wander as well. Thereโs also a strong local-history thread running through the space, with remnant orchard trees and other historical elements, plus information signage if you want to add a little learning to the outing.
If youโre bringing the family dog along, itโs good to know dogs are permitted, provided theyโre on leash.
