Mills Park in Beckenham has long been a favourite with Perth families, and the newer all-abilities Playground has made it an even better spot for kids of all ages and needs. Tucked beside the BBQs and grassed picnic areas and only a short stroll from the main nature play space and skate plaza, this fenced Playground is a great โbase campโ for families who want a safer, more contained area without missing out on all the action.

The all-abilities Playground is fully fenced and double gated, which is especially reassuring for families with toddlers, runners or children who need a more controlled space. Inside, a good portion of the play area is covered by shade sails, and there are several benches and low walls where parents and carers can sit while still having a clear view of the whole space. Some elements, such as the musical instruments, are unshaded, so hats and sunscreen are still a must on warmer days.

Thereโs a nice mix of traditional and inclusive play equipment. Three different swing options cater for a wide range of children, including a popular parent-and-baby โface to faceโ swing that lets you gently rock together.

A large net see-saw encourages group play, and thereโs also an inclusive carousel and a circular in-ground bouncer that works a bit like a trampoline, offering plenty of movement-based fun without the height of a regular trampoline.

Younger kids are drawn to the large accessible jeep rocker, which comfortably fits several children at once, making it perfect for imaginative โoff-road adventuresโ. Nearby youโll find an arm-wrestle table โ a quirky feature you donโt see in many Playgrounds. Itโs a fun novelty for bigger kids and even gives adults an excuse to join in and have a laugh while the little ones play around them.

Imaginative and sensory play are well covered too. Children can play โshopsโ at the little general store or whip up pretend meals in the outdoor kitchen area, which naturally becomes a hub for role play with siblings and friends. Musical play panels invite kids to tap and clang out their own tunes, adding to the lively atmosphere of the Playground. Throughout the space, timber posts are carved and painted to resemble red-tailed black cockatoo feathers, a lovely nod to the local birdlife that helps tie the Playground to its bushland surroundings.

Underfoot, most of the equipment sits on soft-fall rubber, making it easier to navigate with prams and mobility aids, while the more natural, exploratory areas use woodchips to keep that nature-play feel. The combination works well for children with different sensory preferences and mobility needs, and the flat paths around the space add to its overall accessibility.
Just outside the fence, thereโs plenty of open grass, shelters with picnic tables, and free BBQs, making it easy to turn a quick play into a relaxed family outing. The all-abilities Playground is only part of whatโs on offer at Mills Park โ youโre also right next to one of Perthโs best nature play spaces, the Mills Park Skate Plaza, multiple sports ovals and wetlands boardwalks. A short walk takes you to the modern Mills Park Centre, where youโll find toilets, accessible facilities and the family-friendly cafรฉ Fika on Brix, perfect for grabbing coffee and something tasty while the kids burn off energy.

With its secure fencing, mix of inclusive equipment, shade, nearby facilities and connection to the wider Mills Park precinct, Mills Park All Abilities Playground is a fantastic choice for families looking for a destination that genuinely works for a wide range of ages and abilities.
