The popular Mills Park facility has recently opened a new all-abilities playground near the bbqs and grassed area. This new edition to the existing Mills Park Playspace and Skate Plaza is fully fenced and double gated which is also great for younger children. A good amount of the enclosed playground area is covered by shade sails and there are also a few seating options for parents too.
The playground has a mix of play equipment, imaginative play elements and nature play. Local bird life has been referenced with the red-tailed black cockatoo feathers hand carved and painted on timber elements.
I like that this playground has different equipment from the existing playground. The all-abilities playground has three different swings including the parent and baby-style swing.
The see-saw is a large net see-saw.
There is an inclusive carousel and a circle bouncer trampoline.
There is a large accessible Jeep rocker which was popular with the little kids when we were there.
My favourite was the arm wrestle table, I haven’t seen one in a playground before and gave us parents a bit of fun as well.
There are a couple of imagination play elements, including a general store and a kitchen.
There are also some musical instrument elements. Unfortunately, these are not covered by shade at all.
The all-abilities playground has soft fall across most of the play equipment area and wood chips for the more nature play aspects.
There is plenty of grass space around the playground to have a picnic or use the BBQs, or if you prefer Fika on Brix do great food and coffee. There is now plenty on offer for all abilities and ages with the new playground, existing playground, skate park, library, tennis and basketball courts and the cafe all in one location.
