If you’re looking for a Playground that combines open space, beautiful river views, adventure, movement, imaginative play and plenty of room for kids to explore, Mardalup Park in East Perth is well worth a visit.

Located alongside the Swan River, close to Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge, this recently upgraded Playground offers a fantastic setting for a family outing. The park is surrounded by scenic views, walking paths and wide-open grassed areas, making it a great spot for kids to run around and burn off some energy.
The upgraded play space has a lovely nature-inspired design, with timber-look structures, soft green tones and plenty of climbing and exploring opportunities. The main play structure features tall tower-style sections connected by elevated walkways, rope bridges and platforms, giving kids lots of ways to move through the space. There is also a large enclosed tube slide, which is sure to be a favourite for children who love a bit of speed and adventure.

For kids who enjoy climbing, there is a climbing wall with hand and foot holds, rope net sections and overhead bars to hang from. These features are great for building strength, balance and confidence, while also giving older children a bit more of a challenge.

Younger children will also find plenty to enjoy, including a smaller slide, low platforms and imaginative play spaces tucked beneath the larger structure.

The Playground has a soft rubber surface under much of the play equipment, making it more comfortable for little ones as they run, climb and play. There are also sandy play areas, including a sand and water play section with a hand pump and play trough, perfect for digging, scooping and messy sensory play. This area is a lovely addition for younger children who enjoy quieter, creative play.

Imaginative play is encouraged throughout the Playground. There are little cubby-style spaces, a kiosk or shopfront-style play area, and musical play features with metal chimes that kids can tap and experiment with.

The curved tunnel walkway adds another fun element, creating a little adventure path through the Playground and adding to the sense of discovery.

There are swings with a beautiful outlook across the river, including a toddler swing and a standard swing, set beneath shade sails. The shade over parts of the Playground is a big plus, especially during the warmer months, although some surrounding areas are more exposed depending on the time of day.

The open layout means there is plenty of space for scooters, ball games and picnics, making it easy to spend a few hours here enjoying the outdoors. Families can bring a picnic rug, let the kids enjoy the Playground, and make the most of the riverside location. The nearby paths are ideal for a stroll with the pram, a scoot, or a walk along the East Perth foreshore.

Its location also makes it a lovely stop before or after a walk along the river, across Matagarup Bridge, or around the nearby East Perth foreshore. With the Swan River just beyond the Playground, the views are beautiful and there are plenty of grassy areas and trees nearby.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Playground is not gated and is very close to the river, so families with younger children may need to keep a close eye on little explorers. There is also paid parking nearby, which is worth factoring into your visit as it’s not cheap.
With its riverside setting, open green spaces, refreshed play equipment and mix of climbing, sliding, swinging, sensory and imaginative play, Mardalup Park is a great option for a relaxed outdoor family adventure in East Perth.

1 Review on “Mardalup Playground, East Perth”
WARNING!!! Just want to warn people about the big slide at this playground. I went down the slide Tuesday afternoon with my 2yo and it was unexpected fast, so i kind of rolled onto her little leg and fractured a couple of her toes 🙁 after telling other families about it, turns out that 2 other kids we know ended up in PCH for excactly the same reason. This slide is not safe!
Omg you’re not supposed to go down slides with toddlers on your lap for this exactly reason. You’re lucky it was just her toes and that you didn’t break an arm or a leg.
