Keaneโs Point Playground in Peppermint Grove is a gorgeous riverside spot that combines classic Playground fun with a real โday outโ feel. Set right on the banks of the Swan River next to the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, it has that peaceful, leafy Peppermint Grove vibe, with water views and plenty of space for kids to roam and play.

The Playground is split into two sand-based play areas, both shaded by large sails. One area is designed with younger children in mind, especially those aged five and under. Here youโll find lower platforms, gentler slides and play equipment thatโs easy for little legs to navigate, all set in soft sand for safer tumbles. Itโs a lovely space for toddlers and preschoolers to dig, climb and explore at their own pace.

Right alongside is the larger Playground, perfect for older or more confident kids. This area includes more challenging climbing structures and a very popular tripod swing that always seems to have a queue. Thereโs also a small basketball area where kids can shoot hoops or kick a ball around, making it a good option for mixed-age families who need something to keep everyone entertained.

Surrounding the play equipment is a big grassy reserve dotted with mature shade trees, ideal for throwing down a picnic rug and settling in for a few hours. There are a couple of picnic tables and BBQs, so you can choose between bringing a full barbecue lunch or just simple snacks. The open lawn is great for ball games, frisbee or just running off some extra energy, and it all feels safely set back from the road.

Keaneโs Point is well serviced by amenities. Thereโs a toilet right next to the Playground, with additional public toilets a short stroll away across the car park. Being a riverfront reserve, the whole area is naturally picturesque, and what really sets it apart is the access to the water. Sandy riverbanks run along the foreshore, leading down to shallow, calm water thatโs perfect for a paddle, a splash with toddlers, or even a go on a stand-up paddleboard. Do keep in mind that at certain times of year jellyfish can be present, so itโs worth keeping an eye out while the kids are in the water.

Freshwaters cafรฉ, located just across the car park from the Playground, is a well-established local favourite and a big bonus for families. Itโs pram-friendly with space for strollers, offers high chairs, and has both indoor and covered outdoor seating with lovely river views, making it easy to grab coffee, breakfast or lunch before or after a play. You can also grab takeaway and enjoy your treats back at the Playground or on the grassed foreshore

Parking is available in a small car park between the cafรฉ and the Playground, as well as along the roadside. On busy sunny weekends or warm evenings it can get quite congested, so itโs worth arriving a little earlier if youโre planning to stay for a while. Once youโre there though, everything is close together โ Playground, grassed areas, cafรฉ, toilets and river โ which makes it an easy, low-stress outing with kids.
Keaneโs Point Playground is one of those rare spots where you can comfortably spend a whole morning or afternoon without needing to move the car. Between the shaded play areas, grassy reserve, river swimming and nearby cafรฉ, itโs a beautiful riverside destination for families in Perth.
