On the eastern side of Hyde Park, near the corner of Glendower Street and William Street, youโll find the upgraded Hyde Park East Playground โ a compact but exciting play space built around a ninja-style rope course. This modern setup is designed to test strength, balance, climbing and jumping skills, and is suitable for a wide age range โ from confident toddlers right through to older kids and even adults who want to join in.

The main feature of the Playground is the intricate rope course set over soft-fall rubber flooring, providing extra safety and comfort underfoot. The structure includes around 10 different rope and climbing elements, such as a web tunnel, hoops, a small โgymโ style section, a web wall and a rock wall. Children can hop on from any side of the course and challenge themselves to complete all the elements in one go, or pick and choose their favourites.
Older kids will enjoy tackling the trickier components, like the hoop rings and rock wall, which call for more upper-body strength and coordination and are great for building confidence.

Younger children can stick to the gentler parts of the course, such as the web tunnel and web net, where they can crawl and climb at their own pace with plenty of spots to stop and rest.

The standing spinner is another highlight, giving kids that extra bit of dizzy fun and movement they love.

Shade at Hyde Park East Playground comes mainly from the mature trees surrounding the play area. This gives some natural shade throughout the day, but youโll still want to bring hats, sunscreen and water, especially in warmer months. The ground-level layout and surrounding paved paths make it relatively easy for prams and for supervising adults to move around the space.

Around the Playground youโll find BBQ facilities and seating, making it a handy spot to host a casual birthday party or family get-together. Pack some food for the BBQ, and youโll have everything you need for a relaxed day out. Toilets are available within Hyde Park, a short walk from the Playground.

One of the best things about spending time at Hyde Park East Playground is that itโs just one of several play options in Hyde Park. If your kids still have energy to burn after the rope course, you can wander over to the more toddler-friendly Playground and the popular water Playground elsewhere in the park.

Be sure to bring bathers, towels and a change of clothes if youโre planning to let the kids splash. When everyone is finally ready to slow down, the wider park offers beautiful green lawns, shady trees and the lake โ perfect for a gentle stroll, pram walk or a quiet wind-down picnic before heading home.
