Tucked away in a quiet residential pocket of Alkimos, Fairgrounds Park is a charming little spot for a low-key playdate or a relaxed morning out with the kids. Itโs very much a โneighbourhood gemโ style park โ small, peaceful and ideal for families with younger children who prefer a slower pace over big, busy Playgrounds.

The play area is set entirely within a generous sandpit, so itโs perfect for barefoot play and sandcastle building. Be sure to bring along buckets, spades and other sand toys, as they really help stretch out your visit. The play equipment is simple but engaging: thereโs a dome-shaped climbing structure for little adventurers to scramble over, a slide, a basket swing thatโs great for siblings or a parent and child to share, and a bouncy spring boat that rocks like itโs riding the ocean waves.

The boat is a surprise favourite โ even adults can comfortably fit, making it a fun option for shared imaginative play. Itโs definitely one of those pieces that younger kids will gravitate to again and again.

Shade sails cover much of the play space, offering good protection from the sun during the day. Nearby, youโll find undercover picnic tables, which make it easy to settle in with snacks, morning tea or even a simple picnic lunch while still being close enough to keep an eye on the kids.

A small wall runs along the edge of the park, adding a sense of separation between the Playground and the road, though as always, close supervision is important, especially with little runners. The surrounding streets are quiet and residential, helping to keep the overall feel calm and family-friendly.

There are no toilet facilities at Fairgrounds Playground, which is worth keeping in mind if youโre visiting with toddlers or planning a longer stay. Itโs best to go prepared and factor in bathroom stops before or after your park time. There also arenโt any shops immediately adjacent to the Playground, but if youโre keen for a coffee or bite to eat, Santorini Cafe & Restaurant is the closest option just a short drive away โ handy for grabbing a takeaway on your way to or from the park. Dogs on leads are welcome to walk alongside the park, so it can work nicely as a quick play stop during a neighbourhood stroll with the family pup.
Fairgrounds Playground isnโt a full-day destination or a โbig ticketโ play space, but thatโs part of its charm. Itโs a sweet, local-style escape where younger children can dig in the sand, climb, swing, bounce and let their imaginations run wild, while parents enjoy a more peaceful, unhurried outing.
