Shepherds Bush Park in Kingsley is a brilliant spot for families with kids who love bikes, scooters and exploring nature. Tucked alongside Barridale Drive and backing onto Shepherds Bush Reserve, it combines a fantastic bike skills area and Playground with access to bush trails and the wider Robertson Road Cycleway, so you can easily turn a Playground visit into a longer ride or walk through the reserve.

The first thing most kids notice is the mini road network, designed especially for scooters and little bikes. A winding track of โstreetsโ comes complete with painted lane markings, arrows, road signs, pedestrian crossings and even marked parking bays.

Itโs flat and mostly free of blind spots, so children can practise safely negotiating corners, stopping at crossings and following the โrules of the roadโ. When itโs busy it can feel a bit hectic for toddlers as more confident riders zip past, so itโs worth sticking close by younger ones while they get the hang of it.

Right next to this is a fun service-station style petrol pump, perfect for imaginative play. Kids can pull in to โrefuelโ their bikes and scooters before heading back out on the road system.

Natural elements like balance logs and low rocks sit along the track and under a beautiful mature tree, adding some nature play and shady perches for a breather on warmer days.

Older or more adventurous riders are usually drawn straight to the Kingsley Pump and Jump track, which sits within the same reserve.

This BMX/mountain bike area includes colour-coded runs for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders, with rollers, berms and jumps that are hugely popular with tweens and teens. Confident primary school riders will enjoy the easier lines, while more experienced kids can tackle the bigger jumps.

Because riders on the intermediate and advanced circuits use sections of the beginner area to loop back to the start, itโs important to remind younger children to look around carefully and keep to one side where possible.

For those who arenโt quite ready for the pump and jump track but have moved beyond the tiny bike path, the wider reserve offers paved and dirt trails that are ideal for a gentle family ride. Paths through Shepherds Bush Reserve are mostly flat with some short inclines, and link into the Robertson Road Cycleway, a dedicated 2.4km bike route that runs through Kingsley with safe overpasses at major roads. Itโs a great way to extend your outing and explore more of the local area without having to mix with traffic.
The Playground itself is compact but well thought out. There is a swing set with both a standard and toddler seat, a rope climbing arch and net, and a slide that is accessed via a climbing net.

The climbing structures sit in a large sandpit, so bringing along buckets and diggers can add another layer of play for younger children. The rope elements and climbing arch offer a good physical challenge for school-aged kids, while smaller ones may need a helping hand to reach the top of the slide platform.

Around the play and riding areas youโll find several benches, low walls and plenty of grass, making it easy for adults to supervise while still having somewhere comfortable to sit. The lawn is ideal for kicking a ball, throwing a frisbee or spreading out a picnic rug.

The park is well-equipped for a long stay, featuring free electric barbecues and a sheltered picnic table that are perfect for a family lunch while the kids play. A public toilet is available on-site, which is a very welcome addition for those planning to spend a few hours exploring the tracks and Playground. For those arriving by car, there are dedicated parking bays located along the verge of Barridale Drive, providing easy and direct access to the park entrance.

Because the park sits beside a reasonably busy road and a fenced pedestrian overpass, close supervision of younger children is still important. The riding track is set back from Barridale Drive and separated by a grassy slope, footpath and low poles rather than a full fence, so little ones who tend to bolt will need extra watching. The overpass also has a steep rocky side; while the path itself is fenced, itโs wise to keep an eye on curious climbers.

If you want to add coffee to your visit, Kingsley Shopping Centre is just a short drive away and has both a Dome cafรฉ and Passione Gourmet Deli for takeaways. Combined with the mix of bike play, traditional Playground equipment and the opportunity to explore the surrounding bushland, Shepherds Bush Park is a great all-round destination for families with children from toddlers through to teens.
